The Doctor (Brian Blessed)

The result of a premature regeneration brought about by the Master, this Fourth Incarnation of the Doctor was a bombastic character with a very healthy appetite. Knowing that his new self had been a result of a major alteration to the course of the universe, this Doctor tended to see the bigger picture and miss the small things going on around him. This preoccupation came at a heavy price, resulting in the death of one companion and the alienation of another. So caught up in the bigger picture, the Doctor created a clone of himself and gave his life to defeat the biggest Cybermen army ever. The Doctor clone carried on for months before he realised what he was. The realisation that he was to carry on the legacy of the Doctor, gave him a new awareness and appreciation of his companions. At the news of Nick's death the clone took it upon his own shoulders to end the Kuang-Shi infestation of London, but that only ended in a big emotional showdown with Alf (UNHAPPY ENDINGS). Despite his best efforts to make peace with Alf before regenerating, the Doctor was unable to hold of his next regeneration when he was attacked by the Kuang-Shi god, Ashgotoroth. The Doctor retreated to the Zero Room in the TARDIS, where he underwent his fourth regeneration, with the aid of Tardis, and watched by Ruby Mundy (TIME AND THE DOCTOR). The body of the Doctor was resurrected by the power of the Boss of the Millennium People in an attempt to gain power over the Time Lords, or destroy them. The body was returned by the Doctor to it's resting place on the Eye of Orion (THE DOMMERVOY MASTERPLAN).

The Doctor (Anthony Stewart Head)

This incarnation of the Doctor set about doing what his previous incarnation could not, he made peace with Alf, before defeating Ashgotoroth. The new Fifth Doctor has settled down in to a resolute man, no longer feeling the need to look at the bigger picture, a man quite happy to sit back and allow the big plans to happen around him. This is a Doctor much more content to battle the evil in the universe and spend time relaxing with his companion and dear friend, Ruby. First seen in RUINS OF SELF, part the second this incarnation of the Doctor appeared on Peladon to help overthrow a Martian incursion. He seemed haunted by the proximity of Nick, and disturbed when he met Alf in the caverns. The reasons behind these actions can be seen in TIME AND THE DOCTOR, wherein Nick's body was destroyed and Alf drifted away from the Doctor. The Doctor has been plagued by the mistakes of his previous incarnation, in particular when he encountered the Furies (FURIES FROM THE DEEP), but has determined that he will not let the guilt get to him, instead he will be proactive in making sure he does his best to make a positive difference to those he meets, especially seen in his relationship with Ruby. A classic example is the way in which he turned the ruined secondary console room into a kitchen for Ruby's birthday present (REMEMBRANCE OF THE TIME TRAVELLERS). He is not prone to keeping secrets, and maintains a very open and honest friendship with Ruby.

The Companions

Brad DeMars/Static (James Marsters)

Brad DeMars met the Doctor in an echo of his home city, Portland, in URBAN DECAY. At first Brad appeared to be little more than a normal gay American, until he came into contact with the Dommervoy and the Millennium People. It was then that he learned that there was something very different about him, although he knew not what. Brad died in an explosion in Cyber Control on Nova Mondas, and the paradox eaters, the Dommervoy, consumed his body. It was not the end for Brad, since he returned later, revealing himself to be one of the Dommervoy Loci. It was only at his death that his true self was revealed to him – his true self being a Dommervoy Loci called Static who had split itself in two. One half was the Faceless One of the Millennium People and the other half was a copy of Brad DeMars. Using his two positions, Static tracked down paradoxes caused by the universal upheaval. Static was last seen returning Nick’s god-like powers in UNHAPPY ENDINGS.

The Bloke/Nick McShane (Nick Pereira)

The Bloke, as Nick used to be, was one the godlike Millennium People, the Time Lords of the new universe. He first encountered the Doctor in NOVA MONDAS, during a failed mission to track down the missing Faceless One. Being so far away from Forum World when the new universe stabilised, the Bloke became human. As a man with little experience of being human, the Bloke joined the Doctor on his travels. It was after the "adoption" of Falex that a name was decided upon and the Bloke became Nick. Over the following year Nick became romantically involved with the only other human left in the universe, Alf. Eventually she also joined the Doctor, and the three travelled together. Throughout this time Nick developed an intense bond of kinship with the Doctor, looking upon him as a father figure. Nick was horrified to learn that he was travelling with a clone for months after the Doctor’s death and resurrection. It took some time for Nick to overcome his feelings of betrayal and build up a new friendship with the Doctor’s clone. A romance blossomed between Nick and Alf and they married in UNHAPPY ENDINGS. The marriage was short-lived when Nick was kidnapped by a vampire version of Brad. Bradley tried to turn Nick into a Kuang-Shi (vampire), but Nick was visited by the Dommervoy Loci, Static, and given back his godlike powers. The godlike powers did not help Nick, however, when the Kuang-Shi god, Ashgotoroth, attacked him. Nick died and his body became host to a vampire who called himself Nicholaus. Alf beheaded that vampire version sometime later. His body was later ressurected by Ashgotoroth, but the body was ejected into Liquid Time and destroyed once and for all (TIME AND THE DOCTOR). Nick eventually returned in THE DOMMERVOY MASTERPLAN, revealing that he escaped his human body just before it was taken over by the Kuang-Shi, and has since been in training with the Dommervoy, visiting Alf, and guiding the Doctor to Outpost Gallifrey. It was there that Nick revealed the destiny of both the Millennium People and the Time Lords, who would merge into one people called the Gallifreya, with Nick as their supreme leader. One thing is for sure, Nick is bound to return one day...

Rhalena Falex (Elijah Wood)

First seen in DENOUMENT I: SACRIFICE, the child ward of the Doctor's. After the death of his mother on Ossobos, the Taurean child was rescued by the Doctor and Nick. The Doctor took it upon himself to look after the child, who grew very quickly in the year under the Doctor's care. Falex developed a brotherly bond with Nick. The appearance of the Construct Bounty Hunters indicated something darker within Falex - who may or may not have killed at least one man. Upon meeting with Falex's aunty, Rhalena Theramin, the Doctor was instructed to return Falex to Taureas II. The Doctor died before he could carry out that order, and passed on the responsibility to Nick and EnalcKarnip (THE FINAL SOLUTION). Since being returned to Taureas II nothing has been heard of Falex, although it has been hinted that the Doctor, Nick and Alf have since encountered him. Only it was not a pleasent encounter. One day the truth of what happened with Falex will be revealed...

Ace/Alf McShane (Sophie Aldred)

Once upon a time, Alf was the Doctor's companion, Ace. Together they attempted to restore the universe before it came into a new balance, but failed when the Dommervoy ate the paradox that was the Seventh Doctor. Ace was left alone, but her memory was wiped, and she had no idea who she was. She took on the name Alf based on the recommendation of a strange, yet insightful man. For a year she lived on Alpha Centauri as one of the only two humans left alive, working in a prison camp and in spaceship mechanics. During that time she had sporadic encounters with the Doctor (a man Alf knew on a base level to trust) and Nick. The more time she spent with Nick the more her finer feelings developed. After joining the Doctor and Nick on their travels, Alf went through a rough time, including being tortured by a Kuang-Shi version of Nick, from the planet Styria. Alf also encountered her past in the shape of a teenaged Ace. From this encounter she recovered sixteen years worth of memories (KUANG-SHI). Shortly after marrying Nick, Alf was forced into the position of having to kill Nicholaus, the Kuang-Shi who was using Nick’s body as a host. Alf was full of rage, and blamed the Doctor for Nick's death (UNHAPPY ENDINGS). She later made a kind of peace with the regenerated Doctor, and elected to remain with UNIT to help them prepare for the eventual Cyberman invasion in 2001.

Ruby Mundy (Dawn French)

First seen in UNHAPPY ENDINGS, Ruby is the head cook at UNIT HQ and sometimes confidante to the people that pass through her canteen. She took an instant shine to the bombastic Doctor. She was the only one to witness the Doctor's forced regeneration in the TARDIS and was on hand to help him convince Lethbridge-Stewart of his his identity. Following the Doctor's defeat of Ashgotoroth, Ruby joined the Doctor on his travels (TIME AND THE DOCTOR), and they have developed a very strong and relaxed friendship. Since joining the Doctor she has proven herself to be very loyal and pracitcal. A deeply compassionate woman, Ruby is the perfect companion for the resolute and proactive Doctor. So deep is their bond that Ruby has been treated by the Doctor to a trip to her favourite soap opera (DOCTOR WHO AND THE SOAP OF FATAL DEATH) and a brand new kitchen in the TARDIS (REMEMBRANCE OF THE TIME TRAVELLERS).

Tardis (Joanna Lumley)

When the TARDIS was destroyed on Ossobos, the essence of the ship transferred itself into the Doctor's mind. There it remained, manifesting itself in the form of a dark skinned man in Time Lord robes at various points, to nudge the Doctor on. It was this mysterious Figure, who revealed the true nature of the clone Doctor in RUINS OF SELF. The Figure used the energies of Gallifrey to fashion itself a new plasmic shell, and recreated the TARDIS from scratch. Since then the only time the TARDIS needed to physically manifest itself was when the Doctor tried to hold back his regeneration. The Figure re-shapped it's body into that of a female with radiant blue eyes, and renamed herself Tardis. Most of the time she remains within the circuits of the great time travelling machine, but every once in a while Tardis emerges whenever the Doctor is in need of some advice and help.

Missy (Inquisykat)

First seen in RUINS OF SELF, part the second in the TARDIS console room, Missy appeared to belong to a future incarnation of the Doctor. However in UNHAPPY ENDINGS the cat was revealed to be the pet of Ruby Mundy. Once the TARDIS door was open, Missy soon entered and made herself at home.
