This book is great!
It isn't as good as Stardust or Neverwhere but if you don't
really like Neil this is the book to take a chance on him with. He
has written a Stephen King type book with many fantasy touches that
are typical of him. I could almost say that this book reminds me of
a Clive Barker book but considering his work of late I would rather
not. The book is about the man Shadow who ends up traveling cross
country in the service of Odin. Yes Odin, "Holy Norse Mythology
Batman." It is a wonderful book and should be checked out by anyone
who loves fantasy. Now comes the bad news, it is slow moving and is
stilted at times. But all in all it is GREAT! I would also
recommened Snow Glass Apples. Which is available at www.Sci-fi.com
and at www.audible.com. The audio story is awesome. Probably one of
the coolest takes I've seen on the Grimms Fairy tale story.

This is the work of a true master of storytelling. I would say that the time that Ray Bradbury took to write this work is a scant amount compared to the beauty and depth of this work. It is both inspiring and exciting. The book is written with masterful prose and is probably the best horror/fantasy novel I’ve ever read. The story reads like a fairy tale. It is wonderful. Get this one in hardcover, it’s worth it. The book deals with the relationships both subtle and complex of all the family members in this very strange family. It was written in a string of short stories that make it very unusual and yet it was masterfully done so you hardly notice and the different stories become like chapters in a book.
The book is about a homecoming of a family of ghosts, vampires, and other creepies. Add to this a young boy raised by them trying to figure out why he isn’t like them. The premise sounds simple, but there is nothing simple about this book. It is fantastic.

Well it's over. My interest and my time spent reading this book. I'm not sure how it reached publication. This is book is hardly a page turner and I've found I've turned my last page with this one. By page 130 the average reader will not want to continue perhaps even sooner. Nothing truly new lies within these pages. It is an all too typical read for any fan of Fantasy. I usually give any work of Fantasy the benefit of the doubt, I will read about 10 pages and then decide if I want to continue or not. This book I gave over 100 pages hoping it would get better. It didn't, it only got worse. I'm sorry to say it but TOR should have left this puppy in the slush pile.
