The following is the text of an email Charlie sent with his load data.
This rifle was purchased new at a gun show. It was a Remington 700 in .243 Winchester with factory barrel and lamintated stock. Gordy Gritters (515-628-3044, Pella, Iowa) initially tuned the trigger (2 pounds), and pillar bedded the action into the laminated stock. The factory barrel was removed and sent to BlackStar for their polishing process. The lugs were lapped, and a 11-deg target crown was cut when the barrel was returned. After ~1900 rounds, this barrel started "going south", so I decided to replace it with a match grade barrel. I have been shooting .243 Win for 10 plus years (great caliber!), but wanted something different, so I chose a 6mm Ackley Improved for a variety of reasons. After researching many different articles on barrel steels, twist rates, makers, etc., I had Gordy order a Shilen select match SS #7 contour with an 8" twist. Gordy chambered the new barrel in 6mmAI with a .273 neck, and cut an 11-deg target crown. He then trued the bolt face, and set the headspace at absolute minimum. The barrel channel on the factory stock had to be "worked" for the barrel to free float, and some minor work was needed on the bedding before the action was reinstalled. I chose a Springfield Armory Government Model Scope, (1st generation model), Leupold rings and Weaver bases. Attached to the rifle is a Harris bipod and quality nylon sling.I chose the 8" twist for shooting VLDs (95gn - 107gn). I also found that this barrel will shoot lightweight bullets into small groups, and have done a few trials on these bullets. I used the Sinclair method of barrel break-in, using tech grade moly in the process. I use moly-coated bullets most of the time while shooting and like the results I've seen so far. I received a chronograph, and found it very useful in working up my handloads.
The loads listed in the above information are safe in my rifle, and should be approached with caution. Use all safety measures while reloading and enjoy!
