Easter Crafts

Easter Baskets
  • 1 or 2 liter soda bottles
  • scissors
  • paper punch or stapler
  • glue
  • tissue paper or anything to decorate with
  • pinking shears (optional)
Cut off the bottom of a soda bottle. This will be your basket. Trim the edge cleanly, or use pinking shears or other decorative scissors to make a fancy edge. Cut a 1/2 to 1 inch ring from the soda bottle, cut it in half and use one half as the handle. To attach the handle use a paper punch to put a hole in the basket where the handle should be attached. Punch a hole at each end of the handle. Use yarn or ribbon to attach the handle to the basket. You could also use a stapler to attach the handle. You can leave the basket plain or use glue and tissue paper to decorate the outside of it.
Belly Bunny
  • Large Styrofoam Ball
  • A plastic or unbreakable jar with a screw on lid (ex. Mason Jar, Jelly jar, Peanut butter jar, etc.)
  • Construction Paper (White, Pink, and either Black, Blue, Brown, or Green)
  • Cotton Balls
  • Toothpicks
  • A pink, blue or yellow ribbon (optional)
  • Glue
Cut the bottom of the styrofoam ball just enough so it will sit flat on the table. Have the kids draw and cut out black, blue, brown, or green eyes, white bunny ears with pink ear insides(both ears should be cut so the bottom of the ear is cut straight across),and a pink nose. Glue a cotton ball in the center of the styrophom ball (nose), then glue the small pink nose to the center of the cotton ball. Glue the eyes on to the styrofoam ball. While the glue is drying take the white bunny ears and the slightly smaller (should be same shape) pink ear insides. Lay the white ears down and glue a tooth pick (or two for more stability) to the front side of the white ear with half of the toothpick/s on the ear and half hanging off the bottom of the ear. Then take and glue the back side of the pink ear on top of the toothpick and white ear. Do this for each ear. Next glue the styrofoam ball to the top of the jar lid which can be decorated with a paper doily, markers or whatever you may have. Screw the lid on and whichever way the bunny faces, on the other side, glue a cottonball at the bottom of the jar for tail. When the ears dry, stick the toothpick (that is hanging out from the bottom of the ears) into the top of the styrophom ball. You can tie a ribbon around the edge of the jar lid. Fill your bunny with jelly beans, or M&M's or whatever. After easter hold crayons, marbles, pencils, etc.
Chicks in a Basket
  • egg carton
  • cotton balls
  • yellow food dye
  • shredded paper (optional)
  • bits of orange paper
  • marker
Dip one large cotton ball in yellow dye diluted with water. Let dry. Cut egg carton so you have one section. Place a bit of shredded paper (color optional) in bottom of section. When yellow cotton ball is dry, draw eyes on the top. Cut out a very small triangle of orange paper and glue on the yellow cotton ball to make the chicks beak. Sit chick in the carton section to make the chick in the basket.
Easter Bonnets
  • Paper Plate (with center cut out)
  • Styrofoam Soup Bowls
  • Glue
  • Crayons or Markers
  • Misc. Supplies
  • Ribbon
Staple styrofoam soup bowl to paper plates. Let the children decorate them as desired. Supply them with cut out flowers, ribbon, and anything else you like. Attach a length of ribbon to each side of the bonnet to be able to tie the bonnet to child's head.
Styrofoam Eggs
  • Styrofoam Eggs
  • Paint
  • Straight pins (with ball on end)
  • Misc. Craft Items
Take big styrofoam eggs and paint them. You can use the little jems found in craft stores, like the kind for making jewelry. The flower shaped ones work nicely. Use striaght pins to insert through the jems, they look like flowers. Cover the egg in these. You can really be creative and decorate these any way you want. Make several using different types of craft supplies.
Candle Eggs
  • Eggs (not hard boiled)
  • Sharp Nail
  • Old Candles or Parafin Wax
  • Wicks
Hollow out several eggs by gently poking a small hole in one end of each egg. Rinse clean and set the eggshell in the egg carton. Melt some old candles or paraffin wax and wax coloring in a double boiler over low heat. Place a funnel over the opening of the egg and carefully pour wax into the hollow eggshell in the carton. When the eggshell is full, insert a wired wick into the egg, centering it with a piece of tape for support. Allow the wax to cool and harden, then break off the shell and buff the candle with a soft rag. Heat the bottom end of the candle to soften, then press on a flat surface to make it stand up. or use a candle holder. Variations: You can use several different colors of wax, layering them. Let them cool between colors. Add glitter or metallic confetti to make the egg sparkle. Color the wax with old color crayons instead of buying wax coloring. BE SURE THE EGG SHELL IS DRY BEFORE FILLING IT!
Colored Eggs
  • Hard-boiled Eggs
  • Tissue Paper or Crepe Paper
Wet the egg and place pieces of colored tissue paper on it. Set it aside to dry. When the egg dries the tissue paper falls off and the colors stay behind.
Cotton Ball Chick
  • 2 yellow cotton balls
  • 1/2 of a clean egg shell or cup from egg carton
  • Black construction paper
  • Orange construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Hole puncher
  • Glue
Use the hole puncher to make eyes out of black construction paper. Cut a small square from orange construction paper and fold it in half to form a triangle for the beak. Glue one cotton ball into the bottom of the egg shell. Glue the other cotton ball on top for the head. Glue on the two eyes and beak.
Jelly Bean Carrots
  • Scissors
  • Crystal Rose Reynold's wrap
  • Crystal Green Reynold's wrap
  • Crystal Yellow Reynold's wrap
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 8" piece of curling ribbon
  • Gourmet jelly beans
Tear off 12" piece of yellow wrap and smooth onto working area. Tear off 12" piece of rose wrap, and smooth over the yellow piece. Place carrot, tip in the middle, on wrap. Fold wrap over carrot, and fold again, to create small square. Fold corner nearest to tip of carrot to the inside, and the wrap will resemble a flag. Roll carrot up, and gently pull carrot out of the wrap. Fill carrot with jelly beans, to about 1/2" from the top. Twist the top to ensure beans do not fall out. Tear off 10" of green wrap, and place your carrot in the middle, with approximately 1" of carrot top covered. Fold green wrap over once, and gently twist over carrot. Secure with ribbon, and curl ends.
Marbleized Easter Eggs
  • Eggs
  • Onion skin
  • Old pantyhose
  • Twist ties
Wrap fresh eggs in onion skin. Carefully insert the egg (with skin) into old pantyhose and tie the ends so the egg can't escape. Place eggs in deep saucepan. Add enough cold water to about 1" or more above the eggs. Heat rapidly to boiling. Remove from heat. Cover and let stand about 24 minutes. Immediately cool eggs in cold water in a bowl to prevent further cooking. Remove the pantyhose - eggs are marbled.
