Much like the other Scouts, Raye had a pretty funky life even before she became a Sailor Scout. Her mother died while giving birth to her, and her father is a politition who travels abroad. Because her father travels so much, Raye stays with her Grandfather at the Cherry Hill temple, where she is training to be a preistess. She attends Brookedale Girls Private School, a catholic school her dad wanted her to go to. The girls there all respect and admire her because of her authority at the temple, but she doesn't have any real friends there because they're afraid of her mystical powers.

Raye lives at and takes care of the Cherry Hill Temple.

As a part of her training, Raye has learned how to read the 'sacred fire' and ask it questions. She also can sense evil/good forces in people/places/things. When she feels evil vibes, she says something to the effect of: "I sense an evil force here! It must be banished!" Then she pulls out a little scroll called an ofuda and pins it on the sorce of evil, banishing the evil by doing so. In the Japanese version, she chants "Rin, Pyo, Tou, Sha, Kai, Gin, Retsu, Sai, Zen," then yells "AKURYU TAISAN!!" which means "Evil Spirit Begone!!" Makes sense. But the DiC dub probably thought this was satanic or something and changed it to "Fire Balls Charge!"

Evil Spirit Begone! I call upon the power of Mars, Fire Balls, CHARGE! Akuryu Taisan!

As I said before, Raye lives at the Cherry Hill Temple with her Grandpa. One night she found a homeless guy, who later claimed to be a famous rock star, named Chad sleeping out on the front steps of the temple. She and her Grandpa took him in. He fell in love with Rei the first second he saw her. He decided to stay at the temple and be trained by Grandpa so he could be close to Raye. Raye likes him too, but she has a hard time expressing her feelings for people. She yells at Chad a lot and sometimes beats him with her broom. Only when Chad's asleep or not listening does she admit she has feelings for him. Only on a couple occasions did Raye outwardly show her affection...

Raye and Chad

Serena and Raye don't get along so well, and it appears that Raye hates Serena's guts. But really, Raye cares about Serena a lot, but she gets frustrated with her because she is a whiny crybaby flake. It is evident that she cares about her because in the Sailor Moon R movie Raye was the only scout crying over Serena when she 'died,' screaming "USAGI! USAGI! WAKE UP!" She also shows this in the episode 'A reluctant princess' in the first series of Sailor Moon, when on the verge of tears she admits to Serena she had fought well and made a good leader. But nevertheless, most of the time Raye and Serena are fighting away.

Serena and Raye fight over a Sailor V comic book Serena crying over Raye Serena yells at Raye
Raye's true feelings toward Serena come out when Sailor Moon 'died.' Raye's true feelings toward Serena come out when Sailor Moon 'died.'

Raye is almost an entirely different person in the original version of Sailor Moon, the comic book written by Naoko Teaeuchi. In the original story Raye is very sophistcated and has completely vowed off guys, because she says they are unreliable and ignorant. In the anime however, Raye still has some sopistication to her but she tends to be a little more goofy and guy crazy. Personally, I like the manga-Raye a lot better! ^_^

In short, Raye is a tempermantal, hard working chica, but deep down inside she means well. She just has a hard time expressing her feelings.

Attacks

English Japanese Picture What it does
(Mars) Fire Balls Charge!
Akuryu Taisan!
Rei takes out an anti-evil scroll called an ofuda and holds it in front of her face while colors flash behind her. Then she throws the scroll at the source of evil, pinning it onto them. She can use this attack as a Sailor Scout or as just plain Rei.
Mars Fire Ignite!
Fire Soul!
Mars spins around and clasps her hands together in a fists except for her index fingers pointing out. A little fire ball appears at the tips of her fingers and she shoots it at the enemy.
Mars Fire Bird Strike!
Fire Soul Bird!
none
Mars combines an ofuda with her Fire Ignite attack and instead of a fire ball attacking the enemy, a fire bird bursts from the flames. This bird has the ability to dodge enemy attacks and manuever it's way to the target.
Mars Celestial Fire Surround!
Burning Mandala!
Mars 'draws' a ring of fire around her while spinning in a circle. The ring of fire turns into Japanese symbols as Mars pushes several small rings of fire towards the enemy.
Sailor Mars! Mars Flame Shooter!
Mars Flame Sniper!
Mars kneels and a bow and arrow made of flames appears in her hands. As she stands up she shoots the arrow towards the enemy. This is Mars most powerful, and I say coolest, attack.
