The Story

The sorrel mare paced back and forth in her stall, panting. It was close to time. She pressed up against the webbing of her stall door and gave a strained whicker. The other mares in the barn peeked their heads over the stall doors, and looked at the mare with seemingly sympathic eyes. One mare with a blaze down her brown face stretched her neck towards the mare and whuffled. The sorrel mare, named Teardrop, was close to foaling. She began to pace again....

Teardrop's foal was a filly. She had surprisingly white hair. It almost glowed! She had a cream colored mane and tail. Her eyes were brown, moist orbs. She struggled to her feet. Then, all the horses noticed the long horn, spiraling up from the filly's forhead. Teardrop sensed something about the filly wasnt quit right, but she loved her daughter anyway. The mare knew the human would be to the stables soon to check on all of the mares here. Teardrop nuzzled the baby, and the two floated off to sleep.

"Whoa!!! LUKE! GET DOWN HERE!" Tina stared at the new filly. Thoughts raced through her mind. HOW COULD A FOAL BE THAT WHITE? HOW IN THE WORLD COULD IT POSSIBLY HAVE A HORN?!?! IT-IT'S A UNICORN! BUT HOW?!?!?! Tina let herself into the stall, and talked softly to the mare and filly.

"Aren't you a strange thing little girl," she stated in her calm, sing-song voice she always used for the race horses and the rest of their stock. Luke ran in.

"What's up?" the eighteen year old asked, sounding alarmed.

"Look at this filly 'er!"

The filly stretched her legs and stood up, looking straight at the two teenagers. She nickered a little baby nicker. Then she walked towards Tina, who was kneeling, and shoved her hands with her nose, barely missing Tina's face with her horn.

"What'll we do with this little daydream?" Tina whispers, wistfully.

"Put the two of them out into the pasture. Along with the others. Then we'll figure out what to do with her. What was that you called her a sec ago?"

"Daydream."

Daydream was perfect in every way.
