Weyrling Progress Record

Living Caverns

The rough-hewn majesty of this cavern far outpaces any delight in the multitudes of curves that form its enclosure. The glabrous grey granite is shot through with translucent obsidian, lending subtly-veined sparkle to the walls and the foot-trodden smoothness of the floor that shows centuries-old placements of the scarred trestle tables; carven hollows give homes for the glow baskets and the coat-pegs that line the walls. No mosaics, no painting, no tiles: just a few well-done tapestries mark the pathway that lead to the kitchen to the north and the inner caverns to the west, and frame the nighthearth's stew and snacks, while a heavier strip of oiled canvas shields the unwary from the wind... [look closer]

Scattered about in various perches and niches are forty-nine firelizards.

You see Llaammaa, Thief, and Wild Feline Scoreboard here.

Tatia, Lauria, Idibu, M'nty, Nerak, Sua, and Sii'kyn are here.

Kaesa arrives from deeper in the Weyr.

Sua glances up from sniffing at some ale in a mug that she received. First she directs her attention towards Kez and smiles innocently. She could do the innocent act to. She doesn't really answer him other than that, and turns back to the bluerider. "He says he likes to hear them scream. It sounds better than a heardbeast, y'know." She nods her head in a matter-of-fact kind of way before drinking from the mug. Ah yes, /alcohol/. Ale. Yum. "He wanted a candidate, but 'nything would be better than nothing now." And with this she eyes the few in the caverns she might recognize.

Adrin doesn't reply to Xelsey, just takes the pouch and quickly pockets it, again looking around to see if anyone noticed. He scowls at her back as she walks away, and then scowls at the room at large for a bit. He sulks around in the shadows, frowning toward the new weyrlings. After a few minutes of this, he stalks out. Nice to see you too, Adrin.

Adrin goes home.

K'bai has been quietly sitting at a table somewhere in the cavern, and allowing the rest of the post-hatching get-together go on about him. Yes, finally taking the time out to get something or another to eat to put that growl in his tummy at bay. The boy reaches for his juice glass once more, bringing it to his lips to take a slow drink of the fruity contents.

"Woah, hi," Xelsey giggles, widening her eyes as Nerak as she nods... and nods again. "I'm doing great! Couldn't be better, honestly. And thanks!" she beams, reaching over to retrieve a glass of wine from one of the tables. One sip later and she's puckering her lips with distaste, "This is -so- gross! Eww! Try it!" and the glass is promptly shoved towards the other healer. Drink up!

"Taaat..." K'nex is starting to get whiney now. He's sure he's losing some circulation, here. At least he's not being blamed - for the moment - for the tapping of that one terrible rider into Tsunami. Give and take, one might suppose. "Well, if he's going to eat someone...pick someone who's family isn't here," Kez suggests, sounding slightly nervous about the idea. They'd have a real example of a dragon eatign a person, though, instead of just vauge ones to scare candidates with. Shudder.

Zai walks in from the Central Bowl.

Celeste slides into a seat near the newly Impressed pair, and reaches out to take a bit of baklavah from the plate. "Minoyath and Ainth," she repeats. "Right. I'll remember." She frowns at the baklavah, and then nibbles on it hesitantly. "Oh. This is good," she decides after a bit, glancing back up at the others. "You're families weren't here, then? That's too bad. But now you'll be able to go see them whenever you want!" Well. Once they can fly and between. But still.

And where brother dearest has been busy stuffing himself with food, Kaes has been quite busy stuffing herself with.. something not quite like food, so much as it was liquid and the more you drank of it, the more 'happy' you seemed to get.  And it's in this manner that the once again messenger comes into the living caverns.  Shuffling steps drawing her in from the inner caverns, no less.  A half empty flask clutched in one hand, the other busily working at clumsily reattatching the messenger knot to her shoulder.  "..shardin' knot."

Reiko hms thoughtfully at Sua's answer, then shrugs. "Cerdith prefers the herdbeasts," she remarks mildly. Then she drains her glass and sets it down with a satisfied sigh. "Well. I've seen them, I'm satisfied." Some of them, anyway. Sort of. When she wasn't checking out her clutchsibs and the greenrider who was once voted Most Likely to Deck Reiko. "I'm off." Weyrling classes will be starting much too early, she's sure of it. With a quick wave to Tatia, K'nex and Sua, she slips out.

Nerak takes the glass that Xelsey shoves into her hands and smells it.  "It smells ok to me?"  She then takes a small sip, tasting it.  "Xelsey, it doesn't taste bad to me either..." Looking at the girl, she chuckles.  "Have you had much wine, dear?  I remember the night I was promoted.  It was the same night Sr. Jman Sudanna was promoted, and we all went to the mug to celebrate.  I kept drinking the ale... and was sick the next morning.  I vaguely remember trying to play darts with Sudanna and Jathen - what a mistake that was!"  She laughs at the memory.  Taking another sip of the wine, she grins.  "I dont' like ale much even now.  But I do like a nice dessert wine!  This is probably not Benden... not sweet enough. If I find a good wine, I'll let you know and you can try some.  It took me a while of tasting to find one I like."  She grins again.  "So, how do you like being a Journeywoman?"

K'bai was hungry. It was a long day, and can you really blame the boy? He reaches up to tuck a wayward section of hair behind his ear as he leans down to draw his bread through some gravy upon the plate. As he lifts the section to eat, vague gaze lifts up as well, only to lock upon the tottering Kaes. Oh my.

Lauria grins, watching the baklavah slowly disappear. "But I want to save some to take back to the barracks," she adds, as the food is nearly gone. "And... my father was here, and Wyn was here. Wyn is my half-sister. I was hoping Eidelle -wouldn't- be here, and she wasn't, so that was good."

Zai pauses inside the entrance to the caverns. "Shards." She blinks at the crowd. "I forgot about the partying and such." She edges her way toward the Tsunami table, and gives the crowd an annoyed look. "I just wanted some juice. And a nice chair to sit in and not think about sweeps." She pouts. "And here I am, and the juice is all drunk and the chairs all taken." Not that she isn't happy for the lovely new Weyrlings. Of course not.

Sua drowns down the last of her ale and gets up from her seat. She glances towards Kez and offers another of her smiles. "Well, we'll see. At the moment he's off sulking 'cause he hasn't had his candidate yet." Yes, he's been wanting to chomp one soon.. And this is 'Seth we're talking about. You never know what that dragon would actually do. She gives both brownrider and greenrider a nod. "I'm off... I'll see the 'lings later, but for now, g'night." She waves to them and strides on back out into the cold bowl. Cold, yes, and awful. Sigh.

Xelsey flushes slightly of embarassment, her head tilting to the side slightly before it gives way to a quick shake, "Well, no... I mean, I was only promoted just a few nights ago, really... and it's been really busy up here!" she excuses for herself before offering a half-smile, "If you don't mind, I'm just going to go over and mingle with my family real quick... it's not too often that I see them all at once, y'know?" with a small wave, she backsteps towards M'ral and Co, but not before adding a "I'll see you later!" to Nerak.

Sua exchanges the protection of stone for the bowl outside.

Oh my indeed.  Kaes has as of yet to spot the 'traitor'.  Though once she has that knot pinned on, she's happily patting it.  In the process of which, the knot is sent to the floor.  Oblivious of that, Kaesa's once more making her way to a table.  Bumping into whatever she can manage in that not so direct path to the corner table.  Like brother, like sister obviously.  Finally though, Kaesa does spot Kibai.  Considering he appeared to be at the only table she can make it to in this state.  And so, it's towards him that she goes.  Flask grasped tightly in one hand as she totters on up to his table.  A free chair found, secured and dropped into before she's latching red eyes on her brother. "'ibs."

M'nty nods at Celeste. "Yeah... none of my family even knows where I am." He grins slightly, munching on some of that yummy almost-gone baklavah. "Wyn is your Half-sister?" He frowned... then remembered. "Ahh... right. 'Riders relations." He pauses, trying to see if he's right. He was always slightly off balance because his family had been full-blooded related.

Tatia catches sight of Zai as she's frowning after Reiko - annoying bluerider - and she dangles her half-empty wineskin enticingly. "My head's starting to hurt. Want to come have some of mine?" No, that's /not/ a come-on. It's a Tat might explode if she stays longer, let's sneak off to gossip about weyrlings invitation.

Reiko exchanges the protection of stone for the bowl outside.

Nerak nods, "Sure!  I'll see you later.  Have a nice visit with your family."  She waves as Xelsey heads towards her family and wonders what was in the pouch that Xelsey had given to the ex-candidate.  She was going to ask, but didnt' quite know how, nor did it come up in the conversation.  She grabs another meatroll and yawns.  As she is standing, watching the dancers, a young man walks up to her and asks her to dance during one of the faster songs.  She brushes her hands off on a napkin quickly and follows him out onto the dance floor.

"Who's Eidelle? And why didn't you want her there?" Celeste questions around her mouthful of baklavah. "Well, I cheered for you," Celeste offers brightly to M'nty with a beam. "Well, I was mostly thinking about which way to run. But I was /really/ happy when you Impressed. And then I cheered." She takes another bite of her baklavah. "My parents were both here. And my mentor, Kylianna. She's happy I get to go home now."

Sii'kyn strides purposely in from the Hearth.

Trajan is led in by Sii'kyn.

Sii'kyn leads Trajan out.

K'bai cautiously watches Kaes as she starts towards the table he is at, rising a little off of his seat. Now, is he just being polite or is he getting ready to make a fast getaway? Hard to tell. "Kaesa..." he responds, still watching her warily, and then he gets the scent. "You have been drinking... give me some."

K'nex waves at Sua with his free arm. "Well, as long as he's sulking and not trying to hunt one down. Bye." Reiko also gets a wave, since everyone's decided to leave at about the same time. Tatia gets a slightly concerned look, althoguh aloud he 'tsk-tsks'. "Shouldn't've drunk so much."

Idibu appears from some table or another, a glass in his hand. Red liquid barely covers the bottom, and from his walk, it seems safe to bet that he's made a few full ones disappear. His gaze scans the crowd, and he shoves past a few tipsy, giggling weyrgirls to make a beeline for Xelsey. He lays a firm hand on her arm once he reaches her and leans in to whisper something lowly in her ear.

Zai jumps on Tatia's invitation happily. "Yes, please! Somewhere else, I hope?" She jerks her thumb over her shoulder toward the door. "Let's find somewhere quieter. I can hardly hear myself think. Besides, all these disappointed Candidates will probably try and steal the wine anyway." She's so sympathetic. Clearly.

"She's a half-sister, too," Lauria informs Celeste, suppressing a yawn. "But I think she's trying to be me when she grows up. She tries to copy me, she follows me around, she's... she's like a little sister, really. And she lives here. Which means I've been avoiding her a lot during candidacy." Her arms cross, and she quits taking from the tray of baklavah. "And I know. Kibai didn't tell me to run when Ainth came up. You'd think he would've. It isn't as though she just attacked me. She isn't that sort..."

"Kibs," Again with the nickname, and with Kaesa studying her brother as he.. asks for her wine.  Which does garner a smile, and a small shake of her head.  "Nope."  There's a pause, in which concentration is exerted to it's fullest.  So that she can clearly deliver the next of, "You's a rider now.  An'.." Well then.  There goes /that/.  The wine flask is given a small flip and shake before she draws it closer towards her, "An' 's my wine."  Would that suffice as an answer? Hopefully so, because Kaesa's busy working at the tip of the flask to uncork it.  To bring more of that delicious wine forth.

Celeste nods happily at Lauria. "I knew she wouldn't attack you. I liked, her remember? She's cute." And round. Like Celeste. "But Kibai was Impressing at the same time. He couldn't have noticed that she was coming," she adds in the new brownrider's defense.

M'nty nodded, then furrowed his eyebrows in concentration. "Ermm.. Kylianna? Sounds familiar... haven't I heard that somewhere before?" He blinked, "Oh... you're a Healer, right?" That was proabably where. He chuckled at Celeste. "Yeah, Thanks for cheerin' me on. I guess I was kinda concerned with the others and them running that I didn't realize that Minoyath was headed in my... general, direction." He nodded in agreement to Celeste. "Yeah, takes up alot of your time to get hit by a dragon, can't always warn people they're about to be smacked off their rockers too."

Xelsey spins on her heels, eyes widening in surprise at Idibu, even more so after his whisper. It's definitely a night to celebrate, that's for sure. "Oh--um, okay." ...alrighty then. Latching onto his arm, Xelsey leads him towards one of the tables, retrieving a glass of wine for herself and downing the contents despite its bitter taste.

On the dance floor, Nerak and Jacin are dancing to the beat of the music.  "I'm Nerak, a healer from Ista.  I came to help out since they are short-handed with all of the extra work with two sets of candidates.  And you are?" She says as they are swirling around.  Jacin looks down at her and smiles, "Ah, I'm Jacin.  My little brother was one of the candidates.  He didn't impress, I'm afraid.  I think he's too depressed to come to the party.  As a matter of fact, he told me that he was going to pack up so I could take him home with me when I leave tomorrow.  We're going back to the Minehold."  As he says this, the song ends and they both nod at each other, and head back to the table to get a drink.  "Thank you for the dance, Jacin.  That was fun."  Nerak says, smiling with a flushed face.  The song, afterall, was fast.  Jacin bows and grins.  "I hope to dance with you again."

Tatia waves her hand in dismissal as she realeases K'nex's arm. "I'm /fine/," she states emphatically, just in time to stumble and grab for his arm again. Well. Now we know why she's got that death grip. "Um.. through there?" she suggests with a wide-eyed pleading look up at Kez. Support her, please?

K'bai continues to peer across to Kaes, almost as though he is afraid she is going to come right on out and bite him suddenly. He smirks though as the wine is denied to him, but bobs his head in understanding. He licks his lips once more and then murmurs, "Did you see him, Kaesa? Seishuth." Just the slightest ticks of awe imbuing his voice as he stares across at Kaes, hoping she approves. "You saw him?"

Lauria yawns widely, snickering softly at M'nty's put of things. "Oh, Ainth told me she liked Minoyath. He's very polite. And--" She shakes her head at Celeste. "You thought she was cute. I thought she might roll over someone. Remember? But I don't know how I thought she wasn't cute. She's adorable." She makes a pillow with her hands, resting her head on the back of the chair. "I can't believe I'm so tired. But I just. I feel like I've been running miles all day long."

For all his balance problems at times, K'nex manages to keep from stumbling himself as his arm is grabbed onto again. "You are /not/ fine," he states, peering skeptically at the greenrider, than just shakes his head. "Right, though there," he agrees, glancing over at Zai, and then heading out, moving his arm around Tatia to help support her.

Idibu seems a bit anxious, though he's smiling down at Xelsey as he tugs on her arm, bending for a few low whispers and a significant glance toward exit. His grip on her arm is light, but insistent, and he's not sparing any of that good-looking gardner charm tonight. Must be the wine.

Wine or not, Xelsey's there. Idibu's a cute boy. She's legal now. Put the puzzle pieces together folks. She's one happy camper right now. At his persistance, Xelsey quickly sets the glass aside, allowing herself to be pulled towards the exit.

"I remember," Celeste replies with a beam. "I'm glad you got the cute one, and not one of the scary ones. It would have been bad if we tried to run from the dragon you were supposed to Impress." She blinks a few times at the new greenrider. "It's probably tiring to Impress. All that... change, and stuff. Plus, being out there was intense. Made me tired. And I don't even have a stranger rooting around in my head to make it all worse." A hint of sadness sneaks out, but Celeste quickly shoves it aside. "You should go sleep," she suggests helpfully.

Kaesa makes the softest of 'haruphing' noises, deep in the back of her throat, that unbeatable flask of wine finally set atop the table as she peers towards K'bai.  "I did.  An I think he's,"  What a time for dramatic pauses, right? "Mean.  'e took you and now you're gonna be gone.  An mom'n dad'll be all happy that I didn't Impress.  They'll think tha' I'm the good one an.." Well yes, her world has just gone to the redstar in a handbasket.  But things are looking up because she's reaching for a redfruit.  "'s Seishuth?"  A quiet, almost whispered querry.. Kaesa not quite looking at K'bai as she asks.  Though well.. she's at least making an attempt to play nice.  Scary, no?

Zai wanders behind Tatia and K'nex, after a moment of wobbling, moving up to stand at Tatia's other side. "Maybe you shouldn't have any more wine. You can just let me have some," Zai suggests brightly as they leave.

And that quickly, with another skin tucked under his arm, Idibu leads Xelsey off to more entertaining passtimes.

Xelsey steps into the shadows that lead back into the Weyr.

Nerak yawning, Nerak grins at Jacin.  "Well, I'd love to dance with you again, but I've had a busy day.  It's getting late and I need to get some sleep.  By the looks of many of hte people in here, we'll have quite a few customers for 'morning after' teas tomorrow to make the headache from the drinking go away."  She grins up at the man, chuckling.  "I did that once and only once and I'll never do it again."  He looks down at her and grins, "Well, then, May I walk you back to your room then?"

"Am /too/," Tatia insists as the Tsunami crowd heads outward, toward parts unknown, Tat still clinging to skin and K'nex.

M'nty grins. "Yeah, it's kinda freaky. You could say that Minoyath pretty much ripped apart *me* and reassembled it." He shivered slightly, a good kind of shiver. "But other than that... It's mostly a lot of work. At least the meat was cut up for us... this time." He grimaced. Then he caught Celeste's sad look and tried to change the subject. Okay... that wasn't going to work. "Erm... yeah, Ainth's really cute, adorable." He grinned, "Minoyath's been pretending to sleep all this time, I think he just doesn't want to move, so he's pretending he's not hungry or anything."

Nerak grins, "Well, That would be nice, thank you Jacin."  She sets her empty glass of juice back on the 'dirty tray' and takes the arm he offers her.  "Thank you.  The healer's quarters are just off the infirmary.  If I remember correctly, they're off in that direction."  Jacin, grinning, laughs, "So... you don't even know where your room is?  Well, this aught to be an adventure trying to find it!"  Chuckling, the two walk out of the caverns.

Nerak exchanges the protection of stone for the bowl outside.

Nerak busily rushes in from the Central Bowl.

Nerak steps into the shadows that lead back into the Weyr.

K'bai considers for a moment and then stands, only to slip about the table. He grabs a seat and drags it closer to Kaesa, eyes actually shining with a hint of excitement. "He is asleep right now. He seems to like to sleep all sprawled out in the couch, I actually watched him for a little while." A smirk clouds his features though, "I imagine that I should write them about this." But in the next breath he is peering back at her, "Seishuth. Such a beautiful name, isn't it?"

Lauria takes a deep breath, nodding. "She's adorable. And..." Her eyes threaten to quit blinking altogether, but they flutter open. "I think it might just be her, really. The fact that she's asleep. It's making me tired. And it's making me hungry." And it might eventually make her irritable, but the green dragonet isn't aware enough to get too irritable right now. "I think..." And turning to her side, she promptly closes her eyes into unconciousness. The baklavah tray in her lap teeters dangerously to the side.

Kaesa was excited for her brother.. honestly, she really was.  So when he comes to sit near her, she's left to smile.  A little bedazzled and all, but she's smiling.  But then /he/ is being talked about.  Which causes a momentary faulter in that smile.  Only for Kaesa to shake her head.  Dispelling whatever she can of the thoughts therein.  "'s a good name," She comments after a moment of profound thought, "An you should.  Tell'm.. tell'm that I coulda Impressed.  But I didn't want to." Yes, well that's her story now.  "And.. tell'm that Seishuth was the biggest one there an he marched straight up to you.  That oughta make'm really happy."

Lauria goes home.

M'nty grins slightly and Lauria, and nods to Celeste before she leaves. "Nite." He tips the plate of baklavah back onto the table, stands quietly and goes back to his news lifemate.

M'nty goes home.

K'nex goes home.

K'bai , naturally, still has that post-impression glow. You really can't blame him, can you? "I will be sure to write everything in excruciating detail. I am sure I'll be able to tomorrow when Seishuth is sleeping. I am told that they tend to sleep quite a bit the first few days. And I probably won't see you for some time." And what does the boy do? He abruptly leans forward and draws Kaesa into a huge hug. Yes, you saw that right, a hug. "This is so amazing, Kaesa." Yes, more than likely and unknowingly, twisting the knife in a little more.

Oh yes.. well that's just what she wants to hear! Really.  That her very much beloved brother has left her behind in favor of a /dragon/.  A /dragon/!  The hug is responded to.  In that Kaesa returns it quite happily.  Almost willing to believe that he's telling her it's all been a big joke and he /isn't/ going to leave her.  But alas, it's not to be.  Blue eyes widen with slight surprise at her brothers statements of 'not seeing' her for quite some time.  And so she's pulling back. Quite quickly.  An almost hurt look on her face, though the girl covers it soon enough.  "That's.. fine. 'cause I just got a run to do.  An' I'll be gone for some time too.  So I won't be seein' you."  An eye for an eye perhaps?  Too bad there's nothing but hot air behind her boastings.  And the last of those comments garners an almost impish grin.  False, but there for the showing.  "'m glad for you'n what his name.."

K'bai pulls away as well, only to offer Kaes a very faint smile. He reaches over as if to straighten out her shirt, plucking some invisible bit of hair or something from it as well. "Oh? Really? Well, then I suppose you will be busy. But that is good. No more candidate chores. Back to being a messenger. You know... maybe you could try for my old steward post. It could be a step up." So helpful and so blind, isn't he? Yes, still dazzled. "Please, Kaesa, be careful of the drink. And don't have too much."

Zai is asleep.

Tatia goes home.

Kaesa offers the deepest nod of her head that she can.  All to adimant in the fact that yes, she did have a run to do.  Unseen is the fact that she's going to be hiding out in the stables for the next few days while she does that imaginary run.  "'m fine.  I get to sleep with the runners 'n the other messengers.  Don't want no steward position." Because then she'd just be following in the footsteps she was told to.  And we can't have that.  Not really.  Comments on her drink are met with a glance towards the still half-full flask.  In which she reaches for it, before pushing the thing towards K'bai.  "'ve had enough.  Y'want the rest?"  Generous of her, no?  Sabotaging her brother.. evil little kid sister!

K'bai licks his lips, slants a glance to the  side, and then reaches for the flask to take a long drink from it. "Kaesa! What sort of rot gut wine are you swilling?" he gasps, peering down at the flask. He brazenly tosses the flask to the side, yes still open so that the contents drain onto the floor. "Your tastes are better than that," he admonishes, tapping a finger to her nose. He gains this far-away look though, head lifting a little. "Oh... I think... He might be..." The boy trails off as he climbs to his feet. "I need to go." And that is the only warning he gives her before starting off.

There's a grin of triumph from Kaesa.  Entirely wide for all that it meant.  K'bai had taken the bait.  But then.. "Noo.." Well, too late.  The wine flask is tossed aside and gone, and there's a finger tapping her nose.  Which does cause her to momentrally go cross-eyed, before she shakes her head.  A dazed, near weak protest of 'but' given as K'bai begins to stride off.. leaving her alone, and well.. alone.  She blinks for a moment, before she's pushing herself up and moving off in the opposite direction.  Mumbling something about boys and their dragons before she disappears into the weyr.
