Healer
Great Hall
The
ceiling soars surprisingly high in this large room. Comfortable looking chairs are arranged to face the front, where
a speaker might stand to address an assembled group. This is also where the Caduceus is prominently displayed for all
to see, serving as a reminder daily of the oaths a Healer takes.
On one
side of the room is a doorway that leads to the Healer Passage, where the
infirmary is located, and towards the main hall of Ista Hold. On the other end of the room at opposite
ends of the wall are two more doors, one leading into the Healer Lounge, and
living quarters of the Healers posted at the Hall, the other to the Healer
Center where all the offices are located and the book learning takes place.
You see
Caduceus, Jiayi, Snow, and Dinner Decorations here.
Aerrin,
Jassay, Kylianna, Katrine, and Cayl are here.

Dinner
Decorations
The
Great Hall has been transformed for the formal dinner this evening. Long tables
stretch across the hall, covered in alternating cloths of white and rich Healer
purple, and glows have been placed strategically down the center, contrasting
nicely with blooming flowers in tall vases that have been importated from somewhere
for the event. The lighting in the Hall itself is dim, cast primarily by the
hundreds of glows that have been placed in baskets and hung from the cieling
high above. Near the front, the caduceus glows brightly illuminated, set off
from the rest of the room. Everything is impeccably neat and clean, just
waiting for hungry Healers.
Aerrin
is already seated a long table near the front of the room, black robes standing
stark against the white tablecloth that covers the table in front of her. A
faint smile plays across her face as Healers enter. Every few moments she leans
back, head turning to exchange a few words with this Journeyman or that Master
before resuming her watch.
Jassay
makes her way in, white robes as evident as those of a candies. A timid glimpse
is offered about the room, where to go, what to do, it's been such a long time
since she's been here for anything but a class.
Katrine
walks into the Hall, looking around for people she knows, not that she
recognizes that many faces after being at Grinstead for so long. "Hello
Master Aerrin." a warm smile for her Mentor.
Kerali
sways her hips as she walks in from the Healer Passage.
Theorn
walks in from the Healer Passage.
Kylianna
trudges inwards, sandals dragging along the ground as she slinks into the room.
Slink. Slink. She's hot and tired. "Master Aerrin," she manages to
chirp, a half-smile on her face as she eyes the room. A chance to sit down.
Yes. That would be pleasant. Her fellow apprentices get a brief nod.
"'Lo." And she's off and trudging, gold firelizard snoozing around
her neck.
Catia
walks slowly in from the Healer Passage.
Sudanna
walks in from the Healer Passage.
Catia
makes her entrance along with Sudanna, following a couple of apprentices.
"Aerrin... Master Aerrin... I don't believe I've had a chance to
congratulate you yet," she speaks directly to Aerrin, before spotting Cayl
and making her way over to the other rider.
Kerali
walks in, heels clicking softly on the floor as she mingles with the
crowd. "G'day Master Aerrin, Bluerider
Cayl, Jass, Kylianna, Kat, Mosiah," she says, giving each a grin with
their names. At least /that/ part of
Kera's memory isn't burning out on her, eh?
"Wow...this is fabulous!" she whispers, eyes wide as she takes
in the room.
Sudanna
says, "Cayl!" A bright smile wreaths wan face as she spies her old
friend and former apprentice. "How are you feeling dear?" Glances
between Aerrina nd the bluerider.. "Everything going well? And why didn't
you come to me? I am a midwife, you know!"
"Hello...
hi there... Katrine, enjoying being at Ista for a change?" Aerrin's voice
rises and falls in a constant cadence of greeting and small talk, directed in
turn toward Katrine, Kylianna, and Catia, who's given a bright smile and a
soft. "Thank you," before more greetings are given.
Theorn
enters the hall with Kerali, all smiles and sunshine, looking rather
comfortable in his robes. Certainly looser than what he is usually seen in.
After a moment, he moves away from the other healer, beginning to mingle in the
crowd of white and purple robes, passing out greetings as he passes people.
"Jassay, Moe, Journeywoman Aerrin," he says, each punctuated by a
nod. And then his gaze falls onto Katrine, and he heads over to her, waving a
greeting out, along with a "Hello... How've you been?"
Mosiah
slips into the hall, pulling and tugging upon his robes. Really now. Are these
things necessary? Wouldn't just a shirt and shorts do? Instead of the
uniformity of robes. He takes another step, only to near strangle his self.
"Oif!" Fingers pluck at the neckline before shooting a glance to the
healer behind him. "The whole point of wearing a white robe is to keep it
white. Insisting upon stepping on the hem of mine, won't improve matters."
He scampers further in, nodding to this person and that in greeting.
"Caaaaayl."
Kylianna just gives a little 'squee' sound attached to the bluerider's name.
She /missed/ her Cayl. "Caaaayl." Oye, they're getting old. The white
robe is yanked at and adjusted as she continues shifting and moving. The
apprentice gives a little snort to Mosiah, shaking her head as she eyes him.
"You okay? You look like you're havin' some trouble..." Snort.
Katrine
smiles as she finally sees a few familiar faces in the crowd.
"Hello." she calls to the group Kerali is standing with before
turning her attention back to Aerrin. "It's lovely to be here for a
change. Not that I don't like Grinstead." She does..but sometimes you have
that detached feeling, but that feeling is gone as she sees Theorn. Her face
full of smiles. "Hello Theorn. I'm fine. How are you?" slightly
formal she knows but they are under the watchful eyes of many Journeymen.
Aerrin
stands suddenly, greetings stopped as the Hall begins to fill to capacity. She
waits for a moment, scanning the gathering in silence before a fork is lifted
and tapped gently against the glass. The resulting sound echoes in a sharp,
sweet *cling* throughout the Hall. Another short moment, and Aerrin grins
broadly at the group. She glances down the rows of tables, catching the eyes of
other Masters and a few Journeymen here and there before facing front again,
throat clearing. "If I could have your attention, please?" she
addresses toward the Healers, voice loud and commanding from Turns of teaching
rowdy apprentices.
Jassay
looks about at the sudden appearance of so many healers, robes varying from
plain white, to black with purple. The girl is absoloutly lost in the crowd of
healers, so few of whom does she know. So she does the only thing she can think
of and makes her way over towards the edge of the room, near a wall, where she
won't get trampled.
Sudanna
says, "Katrine, Theorn.." Yup, danna /is/ watching.. witha smirk.. remembering her own days as
apprentice.. How long did it take Jathen after her promotion, anyways? Days?
Anyway.. "I am so proud of how /all/ of you look. Thank you for honoring
the Hall so."
Kerali
slips into a chair near the other Sr. Apprentices, attention caught by the
tinkling of metal against glass. She
nudges one of the men to hush, then looks up at Aerrin with a little grin.
Catia
settles herself into a vacant chair, and adjusts her uncomfortable robes. As
Aerrin calls for silence, the greenrider settles her hands into her lap, and
pays attention - it's not as if she was saying anything anyway.
Theorn
looks around for a moment, before replying to Katrine's question. "Not too
bad... been busy since my presentation, but Aeriella has been..." Then
both 'Danna and Aerrin's voices register in his mind. "Thank you
Sudanna..." and then his attention /is/ turned to Aerrin. And bah - days?
Like Theorn could wait that long.
Mosiah
flashes a curious smile onto Kyli as she passes him by, "That snorting
could be a clue to health problems, Kyli. You really should see a Healer about
that." He passes over to an empty seat, only to glance up as Aerrin begins
to play with dinnerware. "And that is exactly why she isn't a Harper.
Tone-deaf." He smiles cheekily up to his mentor before sidling into a
position by... Kylianna.
Katrine
seats herself as quickly as she can in her long robes. Smiling at Danna.
"Thank you for saying that." Her attention now fully fixed on Aerrin.
Sudanna
slips into her own chair, keeping the one beside her open for Jathen. he might
make it, if his relief arrives on time.
Sooo
much for the ever non-classic sneak attack.
Cay's been spotted and her name called across the Hall enough times to
cause her to look in every which direction. "I'm
feeling..great...Sudanna?" She
smiles as she finally spots the woman and hurries over. "Everything's going great
actually. I've been revived by this
wonderful climate." There's the
squee: Kylia must be near. "Old?
Oh..yes, well, I wouldn't call yourself /that/ old, Kylianna,
but..."
"As
you all know, we are members of one of the oldest, most important Crafts on
Pern." Aerrin's speech begins formally, voice dropping a bit softer as the
din quiets down. Her form, clad in the purple-trimmed black robe of a Healer
Masters, stands still and straight just in front of the caduceus. Glowlight illuminates both Aerrin and the
Healer symbol behind her, making them easy to find in the crowded room.
"We don't just affect the everyday lives of Pern.. we change their lives,
and sometimes save them. We have an important responsibility - one that is not
to be taken lightly or handed to those who are not willing to appreciate the
importance of what we do. As such, when someone shows such aptitude and
dedication to advance in our Craft, it is a cause for celebrating and
congratulations - it's not an easy task, but one well worth striving for."
Aerrin pauses, reaching downward to lift her water glass for a short sip before
she continues. "I know many of you worked hard to make our Open House a
few sevendays ago a great success - thanks to Journeyman Sudanna for organizing
that." Aerrin smiles, waving a hand to indicate that Sudanna should rise
to recieve applause, which she begins. Once it's died down, she speaks again.
"That Open House was a fabulous success - we introduced our craft to many
people, and we had several apprentices who worked particularly hard to
accomplish this." A short pause as Aerrin scans the room for a particular
face. "Senior Apprentice Katrine, would you come forward, please?"
Sudanna
nods and blushes as she quickly rises and as quickly sits.. "The apprentices
really deserve the applause for all theier work." She truley believes
that.. she has said it again and again.
Katrine
blinks as it registers in her mind that Aerrin is addressing her. Pushing her
chair back she makes her way over to her Mentor. Nervously clearing her throat
as she reaches Aerrin after the seemingly endless walk.
Kerali
flashes a grin over at Theorn after she stops applauding, giving the man a
quick wink and subtle nod towards Katrine.
Then, wordlessly, she turns to glance up towards the head tables, still
smiling.
Mosiah
brings his hands together in applause with the rest of those present. He
flickers a smile across to Sudanna for a moment before allowing his attention
to drift back forward, following Katrine's progress as she approaches Aerrin.
Theorn
claps for sudanna, smile on his face... and then as Katrine is called forward,
his smile is turned into a grin, mischievious and endearing. "Yeah - Go
katrine! Woooo!" comes his voice, despite the fact that no one else seems
to be shouting encouragement. Oh well.
Kylianna
quiets. The healer flashes Cayl a grin before scootching into a seat, eyes
trapped at the front as she lets out a whistle. Katriiiine. She's either up for
somethin' good or something very, very bad. Hehe. But the healer just cross her
legs, fidgeting within the confines of the robe as she keeps her attention
sharp. Woo.
Catia
gives a quick grin towards Sudanna as the journeywoman is congratulated.
Reaching for her own glass, she drinks, nodding towards the unknown Katrine as
she's called forward.
Jassay
applauds for Sudanna, that is before the sr. apprentice is called forward. Her
blue gaze quickly turns towards Katrine and Aerrin and a small smile crosses
her face.
Aerrin
isn't /quite/ grinning - that wouldn't be fitting, see. It's a formal occasion.
Still, her smile suggests that she's quite proud as her eyes track Katrine's
progress toward the front. "Katrine, you have completed your required
classes, have assisted the Hall by teaching new apprentices, and have completed
a project that was presented - rather successfully, I hear - at the Open House,
correct?" the Master questions, hands clasped loosely in front of her.
Sudanna
finds herself nodding to answer Master Aerrin's questions. She was a witness to
all the work, and the final result. Jade gave her feet a lovely workout with
what she learned at Katrine's class.
Katrine
smiles rather nervously at Aerrin, half wondering just where this is leading up
to. She clears her throat again before speaking. "That's correct Master
Aerrin." and she was just as nervous before presenting her project as she
is now. Fighting the urge to fidget with her robes.
Aerrin
is having trouble with that 'not grinning' bit, but the Healer has been trained
in formality when the occasion calls for it, and this, Katrine's reply gets
only a short not. "Then kneel, apprentice, and place your dominant hand on
the caduceus," she replies, voice rising so the entire hall can hear. The
Master steps to one side, leaving the illuminated space for the apprentice and
caduceus.
Catia
is also having trouble not grinning, having seen more than enough of these
ceremonies to know exactly where Aerrin is leading... up to the caduceus and
beyond, it seems.
Sudanna
really beams now.. As she sees the reward for all Katrine's hard work.. More
hard work, actually, but still.. what a wonderful day for this girl from
Grinstead and how more wonderful for Aerrin.
Kerali
reaches for her glass of - water - and just watches with a grin, hoping that
someday she'll be able to do just what Katrine's doing now. Someday, with just as much hard work, she
knows. For now, she's completely
thrilled for the girl. Go Katrine!
Katrine
goes hot then cold as it finally dawns on her just what is happening. She's
only too happy to kneel as her unsteady legs feel ready to collapse, pausing
only to straighten her robes before she places her right hand on the Caducues.
Remembering the last time she did this..
Theorn
is already grinning as Aerrin speaks, and Katrine follows her instructions.
Even he can guess where this is headed - and he's known for getting confused
with everyday things. Smoothing one hand absentmindedly over his robes, his
full attention is fixed upon the two female healers at the caduceus.
Aerrin
has no trouble with the formality now - she comprehends quite well just how
important this promotion is, and thoughts of her own, turns ago, whirl through
her mind. "Repeat after me, please," she instructs softly before her
voice rises again in formal tones. "I willingly reaffirm the vows I took
when I entered this Craft, and accept the responsibilities and privileges that
come with the rank of Journeyman."
Mosiah
sips at his water as he watches what is occurring further along the room. Gaze
drifts from Master to Katrine and back again with a wry grin as he watches
quietly.
Kylianna
practically lets out a squeak, hunching in her chair as she watches the
unfolding promotion. Biting her lower lip, the ocean-blue eyes flicker back and
forth, from staring at the master to watching Katrine, silent words of
encouragement not getting past her throat. This is always the exciting part.
Waiting to see if they'll pass out before getting out their vows.
Katrine
takes a deep breath and repeats the words after Aerrin, her voice growing in
confidence. "I willingly reaffirm the vows I took when I entered this
Craft, and accept the responsibilities and privileges that come with the rank
of Journeyman." A smile spreading across her face.
Sudanna
quietly stands as Katrine is busy and slips up beside Aerrin, hand holding a
dark 'something' that blends into her own clothing.. Her grin is total and
unabashed now. Formality is out the window for her.
Aerrin
nods slowly, though the motion is barely visible in the dim light she now occupies.
It's Katrine and the caduceus that are well lit. "I swear that I will be
eternally bound by the oaths of the Healers, and that I will forever more be a
member of the HealerCraft," Aerrin continues, prompting easily. A short
glance goes over her shoulder toward Sudanna, who /is/ flashed a broad grin in
the dim light.
Katrine
nods and continues with the oaths. "I swear that I will be eternally bound
by the oaths of the Healers, and that I will forever more be a member of the
HealerCraft." Her pleasure at finally progressing is clear for the Hall to
see.
"Then
rise, Journeyman Katrine, and don your new robes," Aerrin intones, voice
formal for that last bit before it breaks and she's stepping forward to claim a
hug before the new Journeyman has time to take either knot or robe. "And
congratulations.. you deserve it." There's something special, you see,
about the first mentee the Master has watched from apprenticehood to
Journeyman.
Topaz
suddenly disappears ::between::!
Sudanna
steps forward and offers the newly promtoed Katrine her journeywoman's robe and
knot.. A grin as wide as will fit on her face resides there.. seemingly
permanently stuck. As she waits for Aer to let the girl breath, she holds out
both.
Catia
starts to applaud, whether anyone else will or no, a broad smile lighting her
face with pleasure: she may not know Katrine, but this is a special ceremony.
Theorn
starts applauding loudly, whistling at the same time. Is he proud? Damn right
he is. Thats Katrine up there - Journeywoman Katrine no less. Scary. She now
has the power to hand out chores to him... ooo. Evil. But still. *clapclapclap*
"Congratulations Katrine!" comes his call, loud enough to be heard
clearly by everyone.
Jassay
has sat silent and still (yes, she found a seat) for the duration of the
promotion. But once it's all over she adds her own applause to that of the
others who may be applauding. "Congratulations Journeyman!" or
journeywoman, however you want to say it.
Katrine
excepts Aerrin's hug in surprise before stepping back. Taking the offered robes
and knot from Danna, quickly sliding off her old Senior Apprentice robe,
replacing it with her new Journeyman's robe. "Thank you Master Aerrin,
Journeywoman Sudanna." Feeling rather lost for words right now. She didn't
know that she was Aerrin's first, but they'll be many more to come, she's sure
of it.
Sudanna
grabs a hug from the startled and new jman and just..w ell.. hugs..
Kerali
rises up and claps, wearing a huge grin on her face. "Congrats Journeywoman Katrine!" she shouts...not quite
as loud as Theorn, but well. She doubts
anyone could beat him at this point.
INstead, she continues to clap, throwing in once brief whistle for the
fun of it.
Mosiah
claps his hands with the rest of those present as Katrine becomes a Journeyman.
His smile flashes about, most prominently towards the newly promoted.
"Congratulations," he adds as well.
"Congratulations!"
Kylianna lets out another whistle, clapping loudly as she lets out her own
cheer. New journeyman. Scary, indeed. And she elbows the apprentice next to her
to clap harder.
Katrine
positively beams as she accepts more hugs making her way back down to her seat.
Smiling over at Theorn, yep this certainly changes things..
Aerrin
is certainly grinning as she steps into the lit area again, hands clasped
behind her back. "We had others who helped to make the Healer Open house a
great success... Dragonhealer Catia, would you stand please?" The Master
pauses, gaze searching for the greenrider as she pauses, stepping aside a bit
to allow Sudanna to join her in the limelight - or glowlight.. or something.
Catia
blinks in surprise, getting to her feet and dusting down her robes hastily.
"I very much enjoyed taking part," she offers, not sure what she's
expected to say, but adding, "I may be more than twenty Turns a rider...
but I've never stopped being a healer and never want to stop."
Even as
Aerrin speaks, bakers dressed in smart black uniforms spread throughout the
hall, trays held neatly over their heads. Soup bowls are piled carefully onto
the tray, and with an admirable deftness, each Healer is presented with a
vegetable broth that wafts with an aroma to make any mouth water. Mmmm...
Sudanna
says, "And as to that, I wish you all to roundly applaud our dragonhealer
for her help and support in our recent Open House. Catia graciously attended
and hel a demo of the arts of dragonhealing to many interested parties. And of
course to myrineth as well, without whom the demo would not have been half as
entertaining."
Mosiah
shifts his attention from Katrine and over to Catia now. Green-irised eyes
flicker over to watch the dragonrider as she stands now, smiling at her words.
He becomes distracted momentarily though as the food arrives. Mmmmm. He claps
his hands once more in appreciation for Catia and lifemate's assistance at the
open house.
Jassay
smiles slightly and offers an applause for the dragonhealer just as a bowl of
broth is set before her. A slight sniff is offered of the food and she grins
yet a bit more.
Theorn
applauds for the dragonhealer too... but not as loudly as before. Leaning over
to katrine as they recieve soup, he says "Well.. Congratulations again..
Journeywoman." Then his attention is divided between her and his soup.
Yummy!
Catia
grins at the applause, taking a small bow. "Thank you all... and Myrineth
thanks you too. And she's reminded me that we really should come to Ista more
often..."
Katrine
smiles as her hands add to the almost deafening clapping in Hall. She eyes
seeking out the dragonhealer, looking with interest at the broth in front of
her. "Thank you Senior Apprentice Theorn." giggling at him. Opps,
that's probably not fitting behavior.
Kylianna
gives a loud applause for Catia, even though her eyes swivel momentarily down
to the food. Broth. Mmm. But she lets out another loud, whooping cheer of
appreciation. She liked that demonstration, indeed.
Aerrin
shifts a bit, fingers absently drumming against her table - her soupless table.
Evidently the Master isn't done yet. "And I hear that the Open House had a
few other instances of.. excitement.. as well. We had an accident that, if it
weren't for the quick thinking of one of our own, might have claimed a life in
our very own Hall. Senior Apprentice Mosiah, would you please come
forward?" No grinning, of course. Just a very, very pleased smile.
Catia
sits back down, setting her spoon into her broth and shaking her head in
amusement at having her name called. She manages just a few spoonfuls, but
sticks to pulling a piece of bread apart as Mosiah is called up.
Bakers
are now circulating, pictures of icewater (yes, /ice/, in Ista. Special
occasion, you see) and several varities of juice carried carefully as they top
off those glasses that are emptying.
Mosiah
sets spoon back down onto the table as his name is called. He pushes back in
his seat, rising settled weight upon his sandaled feet and patter down the
length of the room to approach Aerrin. He offers her up a wan smile, hands
coming to clasp loosely behind his back.
Willow
arrives from ::between:: and drops a note in your hand.
Sudanna
again nods. Mosiah was responsible for attending to a dear friend of hers when
she was unable to. His quick thinking saved the Gar gardener's life,
actually."
"One
of the most important attributes a Healer can have," Aerrin continues as
she watches Mosiah make his way toward the front. "Is a cool head in an
emergency situation. It can save lives. Mosiah, I believe, has proved himself
quite capable in this area - as well as many others. Would you kneel please,
senior apprentice, and place your dominate hand on the caduceus?" The
Master steps back, again giving up the lit area to the apprentice so her eyes
can sparkle with pride in the safety of dim light.
Kylianna
nearly misses Mosiah's name, too busy eyeing the icewater and juice being
carried. And taking a sip of water, she nearly spits it back out as she notices
Mosiah getting up. /Moe/? Oye... Eyes wide, she just stares.
Lupulin
blinks in from ::between::!
Sudanna
scoops up another dark bundle and pauses, waiting for the apprentice to do as
he was just directed, another of those wide grins.
Mosiah
crouches down, hands smoothing over the front of his robe before kneeling onto
the floor. He drops one long-fingered hand onto the symbol on the floor, palm
pressing to the cool surface. Once done, he looks back up to his mentor, a wry
turn to his lips.
Theorn
wouldn't think /journeywoman/ katrine would be to bothered about fitting
behaviour - its not as though anyone is paying attention anyway, what with all
the excitement up front. And thats where his gaze is fixed. Yup. Thats Moe.
Getting promoted. Not as much a cause for celebration as Katrine... but still.
"Repeat
after me, then," Aerrin intones easily, the words no less formal for
having been uttered twice already tonight. "I willingly reaffirm the vows
I took when I entered this Craft, and accept the responsibilities and
privileges that come with the rank of Journeyman."
"I
willingly reaffirm the vows I took when I entered this Craft, and accept the
responsibilities and privileges that come with the rank of Journeyman,"
Moe echoes with an even voice. He peers across to Aerrin, that hitch in his
lips deepening his dimples and causing even his eyes to smile. Only took about
six turns of apprenticeship to reach this point.
Those
stealthy bakers are at it again, sweeping away empty bowls and spoons before
the Healers even notice their prescence. Faint clinks and the aroma of various
roasted foods come from the direction of the Healer Center, promising more
delightful dishes to come in the midst of Aerrin's speeches and promotions.
Ah, but
what's six turns when you get a shiny new knot at the end of it? Aerrin's
grinning quite firmly now, though she manages to keep her expression from
showing in her voice. Thank Faranth for shadows. "And I swear that I will
be eternally bound by the oaths of the Healers, and that I will forever more be
a member of the HealerCraft," she concludes, voice strong.
"And
I swear that I will be eternally bound by the oaths of the Healers, and that I
will forever more be a member of the HealerCraft," Moe speaks, repeating
Aerrin's words once more. His dark eyebrows arch upwards as he continues to
watch his mentor, that hitch threatening to evolve into a bit of a grin.
"Then
rise, Journeyman Mosiah, and take your new knot and robe," Aerrin responds
before she steps forward, giving into the grin completely. Talk about watching
a mentee's progress for Turns.. "Moe.. you've finally made it!" she
offers in a whisper meant only for those very close. Can't be /too/ excited
over the mentees, you know.
Sudanna
waits and watches.. will he or won't he actually smile? As she holds the robe
to keep it from creasing, she stares out at everyone here.. proud as can be of
all the Healer sin the Hall.. in physical prescence or not.
Katrine
is grinning again as she hears Moe's name being called, Yay for Moe! Two of
Aerrin's Mentees getting promoted in one day.. Her eyes resting briefly on
Theorn, her expression telling him that his time will come, then things will be
different. Until then he'll have to treat her with respect. Clapping loudly for
Moe as he finishes saying his oaths, "Well done."
Theorn
is already clapping for the newest journeyman, - no whistles given, but his
whole heart is in the applause - and a quick "Congratulations Moe!"
is given. He pointedly ignores Katrine's gaze, though the grin still rests on
his face. Treat her with respect? Since when /hasn't/ he respected her.
"Mooooe!"
Kylianna lets out a little cheer for the Moe-man. Even if the idea of him as a
journeyman simultaneously terrifies and disgusts her. It's still Mosiah. And
everyone must cheer for the Moe. So she lets out a loud wolf whistle, adding in
her applause as she tries to juggle clapping and eating. With mostly success.
Catia
applauds happily, before taking her glass of juice. Doesn't she recognise that
Mosiah from somewhere?
Sudanna
presents the newest journeyman with his purple robe and new knot. "Well
done Moe." A small catch in her own throat.. Hey the man saved a friend...
Mosiah
moves to stand once more, towering over Aerrin as he reaches to take the new
knot and robe. He offers her a quick wink at her words, and the muttered
response, "Thanks to you, mentor-mine." He turns about, only to raise
robe and knot well over his head in triumph. Statue of Liberty pose, anyone? he
shakes it about for a moment to totally destroy any of the smooth lines of the
new robe, meandering back to his seat.
Jassay
grins and applauds, so many promotions and in so little time. The girl doesn't
shout, nor does she whistle, just simple applauds for the new journeyman.
Bakers
are taking advantage of the short lull as congratulations are given and smiles
abound. A sudden flurry of trays appear, and plates piled high with boiled
tubers, steamed veggies, and strips of carefully roasted herdbeast appear. The
smell is enough to make /anyone/ hungry. Directly behind them come baskets
piled high with bread still warm from the oven, and small plates of butter are
spaced along the table. A feast, to be sure!
Aerrin
laughs shortly before Mosiah is given a stern look. That's not proper.. er..
journeyman behaiv... why does she even try. Stepping forward again, Aerrin
pauses to wait as food is brought out, palms spreading flat on her still-empty
table. Hmm.. still going? Indeed. "We have others who have shown
themselves to be collected, organized, and extremely helpful in emergency
situations," she offers after a moment. "Such people have already
proven themselves to be assests to the Healer Hall, and worthy of promotion.
Senior apprentice Kylianna, would you come forward, please?" She's on a
/roll/!
Sudanna
keeps pace with the master, pulling yet another robe and knot from a
seemingless endless supply. Too bad she doesn't /like/ the purple personally,
she's dealing with so much of it lately. but it doesn't stop the grin on her
face.. her jaw is begining to ache though.
Hrm?
Whuh? Blinking, Kylianna peers up from her roasted tubers, jaw freezing as she
just... stares. "Me. Me?" Whoa. And like a flash, the healer's
hopping to her feet and scurrying up to the front. After all, Mosiah's six
Turns are nothin' compared to the time Kyli's been wandering the healer halls.
She manages a somewhat dignified stance in front of Master Aerrin. Despite the
fact that her eyes look like they might pop from her head at any given moment.
Mosiah
dismisses any 'stern' looks thrown in his direction, especially those directed
to him from that Aerrin-lady. He drops into his seat, dropping disheveled robe
and knot into his lap. As Kyli rises, Moe flickers a glance up to her, flashing
her a quick smile absolutely imbued with amusement -for all that she probably
doesn't notice it.
Catia
spears a tuber, chuckling at the reaction of the latest person to be called.
"Yes,
you," Aerrin calls, grinning. She's given up, you see. Three promotions is
simply too much to not grin at. "I believe you've shown your worth in your
time a the Hall, Kylianna.. and your prescence of mind and organization, of
which I've heard a great deal about, during a cavein and afterwards, merits
some sort of reward, don't you think?" She pauses, stepping backward
again. "Please kneel and place your dominant hand on the caduceus."
Katrine
smiles as yet another person is called forward, this must be the day for
promotions. Almost absent mindedly spearing and transferring tubers to her
mouth as she watches.
Absently
mindedly transferring tubers! Mais non! These tubers are /superb/. Only the
best, for this Healer dinner, soaked in a delightful sauce of uncertain orgins
that is, nevertheless, delicious and impossible to resist. Mmmm.
Kylianna
is worth about a quarter-mark, maybe. The healer gives a silent nod, eyes still
ready to roll across the floor at the slightest touch as she sinks to her
knees. A little smile plays on her lips, unbidden, her right hand going up to
lightly rest upon the caduceus. And hopefully she won't faint onto it.
"Repeat
after me, please," Aerrin intones again, words coming easily and surely.
"I willingly reaffirm the vows I took when I entered this Craft, and
accept the responsibilities and privileges that come with the rank of
Journeyman"
Theorn
is certainly enjoying the food - his mouth is full of... a little bit of
everything actually. Greedy pig. But his eyes are upturned to watch the
promotion of another senior apprentice, as he chews on the rather sumptious
food provided.
Jassay
continues silently watching, eating at the same time, and, not managing to get
anything on her healer robe. More grinning is given as more people are promoted
to the rank of journeyman, what a delightful day this is.
Sudanna
waits patiently.. face a bit paler, but otherwise holding up just fine. Jathen
would be furious to see her standing.. the over-protectiveness in him his
biggest fault, in her mind.
"I
willingly reaffirm the vows," Kylianna swallows, managing to get out the
words and treating them with the utmost caution. Because if anyone would forget
them and screw it up, it would be her. "I took when I entered this Craft,
and accept the responsibilities and privileges that come with the rank of
Journeyman." Whew. Okay. That part's said.
Mosiah
attempts some of the food provided for the dinner, washing whatever this or
that is with a glass of water. He watches what occurs further up the room, managing
to grin around a mouth chewing food to watch Kylianna.
Ah, but
there's another section still to come. "And I swear that I will be
eternally bound by the oaths of the Healers, and that I will forever more be a
member of the HealerCraft," Aerrin continues, words coming much more
easily to her than they seem to be for Kylianna.
Sudanna
bounces ever so lightly as she waits patiently for this to be done.. What will
they do now? The 'never grow-up' apprentices are both promoted!
"And
I swear that I will be eternally bound by the oaths of the Healers, and that I
will forever more be a member of the HealerCraft," Kylianna finishes,
stumbling slightly at the end as she remains frozen in her spot. But she got
them out, at least. And will probably never let herself be promoted again, if
she has to try to get through another oath.
Aerrin
leans to offer this one a hand - Kyli's looking like she might need some help
upward. "Then rise, Journeyman Kylianna," the Master intones
formally, though she's grinning. "And accept your knot and robe."
Sudanna
steps up and takes her cue from Aerrin and offers Kyli the robe, the knot and a
huge hug. "I am so proud of you Kyli." She steps back after all is
siad and done.
The
bakers finally appear with a tray for Aerrin - no soup, since she's rather
behind on the meal, but the main course, still steaming with delicious aroma.
It's slid into Aerrin's place ever as the Master offers Kylianna help up, ready
for her when she's done.
Katrine
claps as yet another Aerrin mentee gets promoted. It really is the day for it
today. "Congratualtions." she calls to Kylianna.
The
housekeeper arrives to cart Catia off to bed.
Jathen
walks briskly in from the Healer Passage.
Kylianna
will definitely need a hand, and accepts it. Little trouble getting to her
feet, t'is all. Meep. "T-thank you," she chirps, then accepting the
robe, knot, and hug in quick succession. "Thank you," she repeats,
absolutely beaming as she staggers back to her seat. Journeyman Kylianna.
Mwahahaha.
Theorn
applauds yet again - still enthusiastic, though hands are starting to ache a
little from almost contstant pounding together. "Congratulations
Kylianna!" he calls out, eyes glittering with friendly enthusiasm.
Mosiah
claps his hands as not Kyli is promoted. Shells. Is Aerrin out to give the
entire hall Journeyman knots tonight? He flickers a smile to Kyli as she sit,
offering her up a teasing wink. "And to think... we are /journeymen/
now." Boggles, doesn't it?
Sudanna
ahems at the noise and confers with Aerrin.. words hastily whispered and a
comment heard by some.. "Well, there /is/ an extra.." And then
murmers again.
Aerrin
leans her head toward Sudanna, then nods briefly as she steps back to trade
places with the Journeyman. "All yours," she murmurs softly, taking
up another bundle that glimmers purple in the faint light against her black.
"It's
weeiiiird," Kylianna murmurs Mosiah-wards, just shaking her head as she
clutches at her new knot, like it's going to grow legs about bounce away... Or
scurry away, like a ferret. "I mean. It's /us/. Being /journeymen/."
Craaazy.
The
housekeeper arrives to cart Cayl off to bed.
Mosiah
chuckles softly, raising his glass of water in a silent toast to Kyli at their
new promotions. Hey? Where is the alcohol? They /are/ Journeymen now, aren't
they? "And a very welcome promotion at that."
Sudanna
smiles out to the hall as she sees Jathen has finally arrived.\, sans children
so the nanny must have gotten there after all. "There is a spare robe, it
seems, so I would like to put it to good use. There is one here who was of
tremendous help during the Open House.. and had to put up with quite a bit of
rampant apprentice-l;ike behavior as well." As her eyes search out the
hall.. "And he has shown by time and practice that he can learn and even
behave properly when needs be. Senior Appremtice Theorn, will you join Master
Aerrin and I?"
Katrine
can't help the huge grin that is spreading across her face as she hears
Theorn's name being called.
Alcohol?
Actually, it'd be coming, now that the main course is being finished. Not just
wine, though... this is the finest of cordials, served to contrast perfectly
with the various fruity tarts that are replacing empty plates. Those still
bearing apprentice knots are offered teas and klahs instead.
Theorn
turns to look up at Sudanna for a moment, hearing his name, but her words
obviously not quite registering. "Me?" he asks, expression bemused
for a moment, before stark realisation dawns, causing his eyes to grow wide.
Behaive properly? Theorn? Bah. But still, he stands, quickly swallowing his
mouthful of food before heading to join 'Danna and Aerrin, standing infront of
them quietly. A half smile is firmly fixed on his face, as though he is unsure
what to think.
Kylianna
raises her own water glass, taking a light sip as she leans back, practically
giddy now that she's not required to stand and repeat the oath. And hey, her
eyes are fully in her head again. "Indeed, a very welcome one."
Theorn just gets eyed. Him too? Weiiiiird. The new journeywoman just leans
back, eyes practically glowing as she notices alcohol. Ooooh.
Jassay
finishes her applauding only to take a sip of her non-alcaholic beverage. A
grin is offered tart-wards and a chuckle at Theorn's question.
Aerrin
simply stands in the background, grinning. It's Sudanna's turn to shine. And
that meal is making her mouth water.. hmm...
Sudanna
says, "Not only has Theorn grown as a young man in the Hall, he has done
so regardless of the poor examples often offered him by his betters."
Smirks to Aer and jathen.. "And I am personally proud of the work he
displayed to Pern at the Open House. Dragonrider R'ley was quite impressed with
his knowledge and how well he shared it." She turns to the young man..
"Please knell and place your dominate hand on the Caduceus.""
Magen
walks in from the Healer Lounge.
Mosiah
watches Theorn as it is his turn now. His gaze is drawn to the side though at
Kyli's words, flashing her yet another wink. Yeah. Alcohol. That's all we need.
A bunch of drunk newly-frocked Journeymen who haven't had a drink in turns
-well, those who haven't on the sly, that is. Should be a very fun dinner.
Theorn
folloes Sudanna's instructions, slipping to his knee's quickly, and reaching
out his right hand, to gently press it against the caduceus, using it to steady
himself a little. He swallows deeply, turning his eyes up to glance at Sudanna,
before gazing again at the Caduceus.
Sudanna
says, "Please repeat after me.." Yes, she's being polite.. for what
reason, who knows.."I willingly reaffirm the vows I took when I entered
this Craft, and accept the responsibilities and privileges that come with the
rank of Journeyman."
Woo-hoo.
That'll be the Craft spirit. Drunken journeymen. And Journeyman Kylianna will
enjoy being drunk with Journeyman Mosiah, oh yes, she will... Taking a sip from
her glass, she continues her munching, gaze turning to the
promotion-in-progress. Someone else that'll probably be able to get the oath
out far more gracefully than her.
Theorn
pauses for a few moments, taking a deep breath before speaking "I
willingly reaffirm the vows I took when I entered this Craft, and accept the
responsibilities and privileges that come with the rank of Journeyman."
his voice is surprisingly steady as he speaks, and he takes another breath
after finishing that simple sentence.
Katrine
chuckles as some thing alcoholic is placed in front of her, just a little thing
to remind her that she's no longer an apprentice, as if she needs to be
reminded! She's grinning for ear to ear as she listens to Theorn.. Who'd have
thought all those turns back when they first arrived at the Hall that they'd
both make Journeyman on the same day.
And
hungry Healers... Like Aerrin. Who hasn't had so much as a slice of bread yet,
let alone berry tarts and cordial. Instead, she's standing straight and firm
behind Sudanna, watching Theorn's Oaths.
Sudanna
nods, eyes glowing as she studies the suddenly serious Theorn before her...
"Again, please repeat this.. I swear that I will be eternally bound by the
oaths of the Healers, and that I will forever more be a member of the
HealerCraft." Her vision suddenly dims as she remembers the day she spoke
those words for herself.
Theorn
repeats this more quickly, as if afraid he will forget what to say if he
doesn't get it out in time. " I swear that I will be eternally bound by
the oaths of the Healers, and that I will forever more be a member of the
HealerCraft." There. Oath done. His expression is now calm - though what
he is feeling on the inside is probably nothing like calm.
Kurt
stalks in from the Healer Passage.
Jathen
is leaning up against one of the walls, listening to all the promotions and
banter. At least from the time he entered. He watches as his wife confirms rank
on a new journeyman. Theorn at that. Impressive show it was. Despite he and
Aerrin going at it during the Open House....a wary eye notices the new arrival
and then looks back at the front...
Magen
quietly slips in and takes a seat nearby. Not wanting to interrupt or be
noticed. Looking up to the front, at the caduceus, she watches as Theorn is
promoted to Journeyman. *tear in my eye* Whispering..."I always get
emotional at these things."
Moonn
slips quietly in from the Healer Passage.
Sudanna
motions to Aerrin to bestow the robe.. but before she does so, Danna grabs the
newest jman and hugs him, pride showing in her face.. pride for all four
newly-made Jmen actually.
Sora
ping-pongs haphazardly in from the Healer Passage.
Aerrin's
grin is quite firm now, and she steps easily forward to extend robe and knot.
"Congratulations, journeyman," she intones before her gaze slides
along the hall, resting briefly on each new Journeyman.
Mosiah
takes a long drink from his glass, allowing the rich liquid free passage down
his throat and to do its stuff. Sweet nectar, it is. He leans back in his
chair, applauding for Theorn as he is promoted as well, "Well done,
Theorn." But it is that glance from Kyli that has him looking back over to
her with a wry grin.
Kurt
pokes his head through the doors, peering around before stepping in. Dark eyes
scan and search out Aerrin and the
Harper Master flees to the safety of his wife's side. She'll protect him
from evil healers, right?" he reaches out and taps her on the shoulder.
"Hey..."
Theorn
stands, hugging 'Danna tightly for a moment as his calm exterior breaks,
revealing a grin and eyes that sparkle. He then releases her, and taken the new
robe and knot, throwing them into place with haste, and turning to smile and
wave at katrine. Yey. Now she can't give him chores.
Magen
claps. Then fingers in her mouth, she lets a shrill whistle out!
"Congratulations! Woo hoo! Yea!" *I am a lady, I am*
Katrine
wipes away a tear of happiness that has welled up in the corner of her eye.
Waving back at Theorn her eyes still bright with unshed tears. "I guess we
both did it." talking to herself, waiting for him to make his way back to
her.
Sora
shimmies in the entrance with a whisper of sound and a flash of berry-bright
leathers, followed by a gaggle of Harpers with the slightly-frozen look of
those fresh from ::between::. The group pauses, before bluerider directs the
musicians towards another Harper knot, herself leaning back casually against
the wall.
Moonn
slips quietly into the hall having heard there was something going on down this
way. spotting the gathering of formal robes, she lingers near the door just
watching for now.
Aerrin
nearly jumps, so startled is she as Kurt taps her on the shoulder. Evil
healers? No such thing. "Kurt!" she greets as she turns to recognize
her husband. "Have you eaten yet? That plate full of herdbeast has been
/teasing/ me through all those promotions..."
"Congratulations!"
Kylianna lets out another cheer for Theorn, slow smirk directed at Mosiah as
she takes another sip. Mmm. Definitely time to enjoy the drink. And the
company.
Noticing
the harpers arrival, Magen smiles, remembering a concert, where she first heard
a healer song, sung by Reeba. Taking a sip of juice, while trying to decide
what to eat first, as the hunger pains growl louder.
Theorn
then heads down to the rest of the healers, slipping through them to join
Katrine with all due haste - pushin past a rather stout apprentice in the
process. "We both are..." he says, obviously speaking of their
promotion. "Isn't this exciting? So many privaledges now..."
Kurt
smiles and shakes his head. "I haven't eaten yet. Not very hungry. What's
all this going on? Looks like quite a party." he gives one of her hands a
squeeze and waves to Sudanna and Jathen with the other.
Katrine
smiles at him, "I just still can't believe that it's actually
happened." She feels as if she's dreaming as she sips at her cordial.
"have you though about where you want to be posted yet?"
Yeah.
Privileges. And Moe is definitely planning to make the most of them after such
a long drought. Between sipping from his drip and making quick work of the food
on his plate, he chatters away, "Well, I, for one, am pleased that I
decided to show up today. And to think, I nearly skipped so I could go work on
my tan." He flashes a smile to Kyli, "So, how is that new knot
resting with you? Expected it?"
Jassay
does notices Magen and sends a wave in her direction before returning to her
food and watching everyone do their thing.
Sora
catches Magen's wave and returns it with a slight smile, still leaning against
the wall and eyeing the food table somewhat .. hungrily. Push a hungry
bluerider out on ferry duty and what do you get? A transplanted hungry
bluerider.
"Dinner
and promotions," Aerrin responds with a beaming, absently returning the
squeeze before her voice rises. She's caught sight of an entering rider, you
see, complete with the night's entertainment. "Excuse me!" A short
moment, to give the noise some time to die down, and then "If you guys
want to shove the tables against the walls and get out of those robes, I think
we have some harpers who will provide music for dancing!"
Theorn
nods along with katrine, a glass of... well. Something alcoholic.. in one hand,
drained in a few quick gulps. Yupyup. Abusing priveledges such as this is just
the kind of thing a journeyman - especially a new journeyman should do. Another
glass is snatched up, this time tasted and sipped instead of gulped. See... he
/can/ control himself.
"It's
feelin' good. /Really/ good. So /glad/ to have it... Won't have to do those
same ol' chores anymore." Now, far more painful ones. Like a feline,
Kylianna stretches, practically beaming as she tries to finish off her
remaining food. Dancing. Must finish food. Yes. "I'd nearly slept through
this, too... Barely woke up from my nap in time." Scarf. Foood. A light
glance is tossed at him again. "You're going to enjoy being a journeyman,
then?"
Kurt
looks around and smiles. "Sounds like fun." and tilting to the side a
bit, he pulls a pair of drumsticks out of his boot. "So should we go at
it?" he asks, twirling one between his fingers.
Magen
quickly cleans up what's left on her plate. And just barely in time, before
tables are pushed off to the side. Trying not to gulp down the last of her
juice. "It looks like everyone is ready for some fun!" Laughing while
she walks over to Jassay. "This should be quite the evening, Jassay. Maybe
we should take notes, to use later on. Whenever we need to remind our teachers,
of what not to do, while under the influence?"
Mosiah
smiles softly, moving to rise to his feet. "That I am... and speaking of
healer duties, there was a patient in the infirmary that I need to check up
on." Sheesh, can't go slacking and getting drunk before looking in on
someone. He passes by Kyli's chair, leaning over briefly to whisper something
in her ear and heading off.
Jassay
turns towards Magen as she finishes off her meal and offers a slight shrug.
"Heh, that'd be interesting, but I don't think they'd appreciate it
much," the child, who feels even more like a child today, notes.
