Skylar, born at Crom Hold, is the first born child of Crom Hold's Runner Breeder Skylen and Herder Master Triani. Having grown up in the Herder Hall there, the boy had puppies for playmates and nearly learned to ride runners before he walked. Sisters Wren and Kyiani were born next and then brother Tren.
When Skylar was but seven turns old and his mother was pregnant with brother Srian, his father died from a long winter illness at but the age of 31. This devistated the family. Not long after Triani gave birth to Srian, her long time canine died as well -from old age. This prompted a move to Telgar Weyr where his mother took the position of WeyrHerder.
Skylar melded well into weyrlife, enjoying the living conditions, watching the dragons with a greedy eye, and learning through watching to take care of animals. Over the turns, the boy began to show signs of a mischevious actions and a bit of a rebellious attitude as he was spoiled by not only the residents but his own mother for he looked far too much like his father. He continued to keep an eye on those dragons and voicing quite often how great his life would be were he to be impressed to one. The boy fairly emulated teh riders and found his Aunt O'no something to aspire to, much to his mother's chagrin. O'no's 3 children (Ondriel,Onoby, and Onya) were being fostered to Triani, which left their quarters in the Herder's Wing rather packed full of kids, animals, and firelizards. When Skylar reached 13 turns in age, Triani thought it was about time that the boy was shown just how great his life is with a taste of what Triani's early life was like. So, she sent the boy to live for a turn at Bitra Hold, where she grew up, with his strict grandparens.
Skylar came back to Telgar Weyr none the worse for the ware, having picked up some rather appauling gambling habits, but with the lesson well learned. Life at the Weyr *without a dragon partner* is something to be thankful for. He became a stableboy at the local stables on yet one more ultimatum by his mother: either be a herder or find some other way to be useful about the Weyr.
At 14 and a half turns, a position at Bitra Hold opened up for a Herder Master and Triani thought it was time to return home. Skylar balked and his mother relented, saying that he acted too much like her, looked too much like his father, and was getting to be too old for her to boss around much more. Skylar was allowed to do what he wished, and he wished to remain at the Weyr in his stablehand position.
For the next turn, Skylar did very well in the Weyr on his own. He got into plenty of trouble but rarely got caught, actually made some aquaintances with various riders, and did his best to turn his various charms onto the female population of the Weyr, be them locals or visiting. Teasing reached a new level as he became better affiliated with Tarlin, a local cook and a turn older than him. Theirs is a love/hate relationship with thrown punches and the occasional smooch. But, that doesn't keep our hero from smooching this rider or that crafter, or blatantly sniffing around all the other pretty femmes he comes across.
At about fifteen and a quarter, Skylar was out in the stables with Tarlin and a healer, when all heck broke loose. A pair of dragons came sniffing for lunch, but instead sniffed out Skylar for Search. The boy couldn't have been more delighted, for it was his life-long ambition to be a rider. He just had to be Searched, after that... he knew he would Impress. He just knows.
After a seemingly endless candidacy, the day of the hatching finally came about. With utter and complete calmness, the boy went out onto those sands knowing for sure he was going to impress. It wasn't 'til nearly the very end when his dragon did hatch *although he didn't see it* and approached him, catching Skylar by surprise. But in the second he layed eyes on the dragon, impression was made and Skylar became Sk'lar, rider of bronze Kahlendroth.
Sk'lar's weyrlinghood was a rollercoaster ride. The first months were a whirl as he got to know his lifemate, the pair always pushing the boandaries and hasty to learn more and progress faster than the others of their class. Sky was taken aside by WeyrlingMaster Re'a one day and promoted to Weyrling Wingleader, much to his delight. Alas, that didn't last long when Sky got a little uppity with a goldrider, and was quickly demoted. Eventually, he got his title back and graduated.
Just a few days after graduation, Sk'lar was approached by Skyskimmer WingLeader J'avia after a bit of a wager that he had to make due on. The terms: become her WingSecond. A weyrling just graduated immediately made WingSecond?! True, and he immediately accepted. And it wasn't so very long after that Sk'lar found his own sense of responsibility and committment, brought to him in the form of Tarlin, a rather fiery cook that seemed to have taunted him by her very existance for quite some time. Unable to see her in the dorms any longer or with another, Sky wanted Tarlin all to himself, and asked her in a bit of a round-about way to be his weyrmate on her turnday. She accepted, and he has been happy ever since.
In a flurry of events that hardly encompassed a full sevenday, Sk'lar managed to loose his Wingsecond knot to the new Wingleader, Ri, on account of his smart mouth. Just a day or so later, gold Serath launched into the skies for a leadership flight, that left Kahlendroth chasing and catching. With the bronze managing to catch the gold in the flight, Sk'lar became the new Weyrleader of Telgar Weyr, much to most of the Weyr population's chagrin.
