FLASHBACK
The Que Club, Birmingham
5th August 2000

Only for the headstrong

Aquick review this time cos I'm writing it so long after the event took place (sorry!).

Met up with Neil from the oldskool list and mate Steve for this one, and first up we popped along to the Gallery for some Red Bull mash up! Shortly afterwards we went along to the Que Club where we got in easily enough as per - they really have tightened up security for Flashback and they're polite but firm, just how it should be.

808 STATE - what can I say? They totally rocked the funky beat and then some. Can't remember the last time I heard "Horsepower" played out and it was a blinding set by the boys - absolute respect for the techno masters.

Of course, SHADES OF RHYTHM weren't going to be beaten and for the last time ever (or so they say!) they did what they do best - the classics and no mistake. There had been a public announcement before this event that it would be their last ever 'old' set so they could concentrate on new material, so this was one to be savoured.

Later in the evening, RAY KEITH laid down some '94 style tunes ("Original Nuttah" and all) and SY did the anthems at the end, playing back to back "Out of Space" and "Ruff in the Jungle Bizness" to finish the night.

So overall a damn good night as always (don't let anyone tell you otherwise!) and if you see Neil, he seems to like massages from strangers so watch out of your name is Tom or Craig.
