First up in a double-bill of major label releases is the best track Blue Pearl ever released. The story is that this was originally so close to the Bizarre Inc track "Playing With Knives" that it was pulled and remixed before a release was granted. Listen carefully and the vocals remain at the end. Previously to this, Blue Pearl released the anthemic "Naked in the Rain" in 1990, but perhaps the most memorable thing about the act was that the singer had perhaps the oddest name recorded - Durga McBroom. |

As I don't have the 1st 12" I don't know if the mix was on there as well, so I've got a picture of the remix 12" with the best version of "African Reign" on. This is a glorious 'old' rave tune, before the jungle-type breakbeat was brought in, and relies on a heavy synth line to get the message across, plus powerful "how ya feeling, in the party...?" samples making this easily one of the best releases of 1990. |
