This unbelievable Kaier's mechanical sign turned
up at an auction in Belvadier N.J. several years ago and although I
was at the auction, I did not even get a chance to put my hand up.
But, patience and persistence paid out, after a few years, the buyer
decided to sell it to me, after deciding that it needed much work
than he was willing to do and that perhaps I would give the loving
restoration that it so rightfully deserved. The sign was made by the
Brunhoff Mfg. Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio. It is lit by three tubular
lights and has a chain driven belt of colored glass tubes that travel
around the inside of the case. I had to replace many of the colored
glass tubes, I had them cut to size by a local neon glass repair shop
and I stained each one with stained glass craft paint. I had to make
a new drive shaft assembly and motor mount. I would like to hear from
anybody who ever saw another advertising light like this (advertising
anything) in any state of repair.
