In the main text I showed Kaczynski’s isolation and reclusive ways came primarily from Angle/moon/saturn/pluto in his 7th chart. His raging hatred came from his weak, strongly forefront mars in Pisces. Together they made self assertion and self-determination unrealizable. Forefront mars serves as a fault that ruptures when new forefront mars occurs through progressions. “Rupture” usually means excessive anger. It implies self- or other-injury.

Mars in Pisces forefront is a serious mars fault. This is more true for a man than for a woman. Mars in a man’s chart symbolizes his own initiative. In a woman’s chart it may represent the man in her life.

Kaczynski’s c mars, ruler of C Asc in b 7th house, conjunct b venus, ruler of B Asc influences three out of four of his “I-Thou” (1st-7th) houses.

Having equated weak forefront mars, failure, anger, and covert aggression, I had decisions to make about what rules to use in assessing his new mars as forefront mars. The bombs he placed presented no problem. He was likely in the grip of anger the same day he placed them, otherwise he would not have placed them. Those he mailed usually involved a couple of days between the time he mailed them feeling anger, to the time they were opened, when he may not have felt it. But, he also needed time to construct his bombs--a lot more time. I have assumed he was angry while he was making them. He may have mailed them while still angry. He may, however, have made a bomb, then held on to it. Then he mailed it, for instance, when some news story enraged him. That means timing for any one bombing could come from a short-term forefront mars condition lasting only days.

Because of that, I included short-term as well as long-term new forefront mars conditions in the count. I also allowed somewhat larger orbs of planets to Angles than I usually use.

Three of his charts, his 3rd, 7th, and 10th, started out with his conception mars in Pisces forefront because each provides a harmonic light to the set which includes his mars, which in turn rules his conception Ascendant. They were the first three I decided to count. I added his 1st chart because I have personally experienced anger through that chart, but readily admit 1st chart mars can mean a host of other things--accidents and some medical problems, for two examples. I added his 4th chart to the count because having already included his "mother chart" (10th), I wanted to see how his "father chart" (4th) turned out.

Below I list new forefront mars sets for each chart for each bombing. At the end I count them and write a short conclusion, both under the subheading, “Tallies.”

The description of what happened for each date is taken from Appendix A of The Unabomber.

As far as is known, May 25, 1978 was Kaczynski’s first attempt to injure others through explosive devices.

Unless specified otherwise, each entabled set presented below counts “1” toward the tally.

”A device, addressed to Professor E.J. Smith at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and apparently from Professor Buckley Crist, discovered in a parking lot at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, injures a security guard, Terry Marker.”

I am not sure about jupiter. Maybe...for Kaczynski bombing provided a sense of accomplishment, power, and success (jupiter) that counteracted the impotence of his moon/mars/Pisces, which was the negative end of this particular stick.

Progressing b10 neptune stayed a part of this set until just before Kaczynski’s last bombing. The same was true for pb jupiter. Progressing b10 pluto started coming into play once Kaczynski resumed the letter bomb. After a six-year hiatus, on June 22, 1993, pb10 pluto was at 11 Virgo 37.

Previously known as very bright (moon/moon//mercury/uranus forefront), Kaczynski became angry (mars) and/or driven (mars). Progressed birth mars stayed a part of this set for the next three incidents, through June 10, 1980. On that date progressed mars was at 15 Cancer 34, still closely aspecting mercury, ruler of CMC, but past both moons. When mercury rules an Angle and receives a progression (like mars), it acts more like a light than the other planets of personality. So, even without a light, June 10, 1980 gets 1 count from the remaining mercury/mars set.

I resisted using this set for the first two dates. Orb is increased by the sun in this set, so arguably, it could have been counted. But on this date progressed B Asc has reached 11 Gemini 21, near the mid-point (1° each way) between the sun and mars and I consider the whole set operative and forefront.

Had I counted this for even the previous date, May 9, 1979 (when pB was at 10 Gemini 56), it would have meant Kaczynski had new forefront mars in both his 4th and 10th charts. These followed on the heels of his progressed Angle to c mars in Pisces for his first bombing. It suggests that issues of personal power and autonomy he did not work out with his parents fueled his rage which, in turn, he expressed through explosives aimed at others.

There is difference in negative strength between these two charts. His 10th, “mother” chart is the more potently negative. First, because it provides a light for his non-harmonic conjunction of venus/mars in Pisces, which is a forefront influence. Second, because it contains harmonic moon and mars in Pisces, each sponsoring feelings of helplessness, suffering, and pain. Third, because harmonic mars from the latter is from his c mars, ruling C Asc. It remains forefront throughout his life. Harmonic mars in Pisces in his 4th, “father” chart, is from his b mars. It rules b 7th/12th houses and is lighted, but it not forefront. An Angle or Angle ruler has to progress to it to make it forefront.

That is all I found for July 2. It is the weakest date for forefront mars. He did, however, have transiting uranus in Scorpio opposing his B Asc. It showed up again transiting conjunction his C Asc in Scorpio in 1985, the year he sent four bombs. It was his most active year, but only two of the incidents had strong forefront mars. The following are uranus’ positions (for 7 p.m. MST) surrounding this date, July 2, 1982.

B Asc is at 5 Taurus 27, with b sun at 6 Taurus 46 and b uranus at 6 Taurus 30.

After January August 9, 1982 it stops opposing his B Asc.

Kaczynski’s b10 NN is at 6 Scorpio 32. I know from past work that we all try to find NN behavior. Sometimes it comes out perverted (I assume killing others a perversion of Kaczynski’s soul’s intent), but uranus transiting a NN (growth) in Scorpio (transformations) suggests sudden (uranus) death, seeking dying, and so on. Lights on South Nodes make finding North Node behavior much more difficult. Even when found, experiencing it is more like a shot in the dark. It creates a sense of emergency and little learning.

After the bomb which Angelakos triggered on July 2, 1982, Kaczynski took his second longest leave from sending them. He did not booby-trap, place, or mail a bomb for the next (nearly) three years.

For all the activity Kaczynski showed in 1985 (four bombs), his forefront progressed Angle/mars were only powerful for the last two (both from his 4th chart). I would have thought he would have had all-charts Angle/mars progression. He does not. What happened? How did 1985 get so active?

In 1985 and 1986 transiting uranus was passing back and forth over his C Asc in Scorpio. Uranus transiting a mars-ruled Asc works for some one feeling an urgent (uranus) need to do (mars) something, Scorpio, of course, raises the ante because of its association with transformations.

The following shows uranus’ position during 1985.

C Asc is at 23 Scorpio 54

After January 1, 1986, transiting uranus ascended through Scorpio--above his C Asc--until it turned retrograde and eventually hit it again. It turned stationary direct at 23 Scorpio 48 on August 28, 1986, right on his Asc. During most of August and two-thirds of September transiting uranus was conjunct his C Asc. After that, it passed permanently beyond it. I wonder what Kaczynski was experiencing in August and September, 1986?

One idea--Hugh Campbell Scrutton, the first individual to die from Kaczynski’s bombs, died in the December 11, 1985 bombing. After December, 1985, Kaczynski was a murderer. He was silent in 1986, resuming his attacks on February 20, 1987. Did becoming a murderer scare even him, at least for a while? Or, did he almost blow himself up? (Uranus in Scorpio on a Scorpio Asc, a near-death experience?)

There was six-year interlude between Kaczynski’s bombs, from February, 1987 to June, 1993. The position of c10 saturn in the table below is for December 11, 1985. (There is no new mars count here. Rather, mars is being suppressed. While suppressed mars indeed can generate anger, it also tends to produce paralysis. This one generated inactivity for the mars--b mars in Gemini in b 3rd/c 7th--most responsible for the form Kaczynski’s anger took--bombs in neighborhoods and through the mail.)

On February 20, 1987, pc10 saturn was at 22 Gemini 11 R, and he was sighted for the first time. On June 22, 1993, when he resumed the bombs, pc10 saturn was at 19 Gemini 24 R, well off his b mars in Gemini.

After being sighted, Kaczynski had a powerful reason to take a break, even to forsake altogether his homicidal activities. After killing Hugh Scrutton, Kaczynski was liable to being prosecuted for murder. After he was spotted, being caught became a real possibility.

Accordingly, we should expect that only powerful anger could drive Kaczynski to resume his homicidal activities. That should be shown by new, long-term (as was the case with his first incident in 1978) forefront mars influences for the date he resumed. That date was...

June 22, 1993
“Dr. Charles Epstein, a world famous geneticist, is maimed at his Tiburon, California, home by a mail bomb enclosed in a padded envelope. Epstein was a professor at the University of California at San Francisco Medical School.”

Kaczynski went from progressed b sun lighting progressed c mars to it lighting c mars. So, he had the consciousness of forefront mars in Pisces six months to a year before his return to mail explosives. This set counts 1 in each chart.

He had another 3rd set on this date. It did not contain mars, so it cannot be counted. But it was important. Remember the set in his partial 3rd chart, shown in the main paper, which showed his tendency to schizophrenia? Here it is in the table form:

In his 1st chart Kaczynski’s two Ascendants are aspecting saturn, with B Asc also conjunct neptune. So when it acquired an Angle/mars [(b) above], he had forefront mars, saturn, and neptune, representing siege for his identity. Practically, he may have been more drug-affected (Trazodone) than usual, experiencing allergic reactions, or inadvertently inhaling too much noxious gas from his work.

At the same time, his 3rd chart acquired progressed saturn [(e) above] to his already schizophrenic set.

This is one of the times--that is, when he resumed bombing after a six-year hiatus--when Kaczynski was paranoid schizophrenic.

There were no significant progressed 4th chart Angle/mars for this date.

10th Chart
Progressed b10 neptune, now at 11 Gemini 38, continues to be part of the set involving Kaczynski’s moon conjunct mars in Pisces (10 Pisces 04 and 11 Pisces 40 respectively). Progressed b10 pluto, at 11 Virgo 37, has joined them. Progressed b jupiter, now at 13 Gemini 22, has passed on. There is no new mars count here.

Kaczynski has progressed c10 sun at 26 Scorpio 01 and progressed c10 mars (ruler of C Asc) at 26 Aquarius 49. These move along together and are too far apart for this date. It does not count.

The most important progression in Kaczynski’s 10th chart is the following:

Kaczynski’s B Asc at 5 Taurus 27 is conjunct (within less than three degrees) sun/uranus/uranus/saturn. In this, his 10th chart, b10 SN is at 6 Taurus 32. Combined with the progression shown above, he has two Angles under this influence. In his own way Kaczynski was trying to use a knife (NN in Scorpio) to free himself from his attachment (SN in Taurus) to “technological society” (saturn/uranus). It can also be read--free himself from the negative outcome (SN) of his attachment (SN) to his mother (10th chart). I am going to give set (a) 1 count because mars rules Scorpio.

June 24, 1993
“Dr. David Gelernter, inventor of the computer system ‘Linda,’ is badly injured in his Yale University office in New Haven, Connecticut. The package was mailed from Sacramento with a return address listed as Mary Jane Lee, Computer Science, California State University. Gelernter, an artist, author, and computer expert, arrived at his office early in the morning and opened a package identical to Epstein’s. The mail bomb inflicted serious injuries to his ear, eye, and hand.”

This date is only two days after the previous mail bomb. The counts generated June 22, 1993 will be used for this date.

I read Gelernter’s book (cited in main paper) about his experience. His survival was truly remarkable. His recovery involved getting through months of pain and darkness, and a lot of hard work. He was a survivor on all counts.

December 10, 1994
“Thomas Mosser, a New Jersey advertising executive, is killed by a powerful bomb mailed to his North Caldwell, New Jersey home on Aspen Drive. The return address read HC Wickel, Department of Economics, San Francisco State University. No such person existed.”

Even though the mars which makes this forefront--progressed c1 mars--has passed by its light, c moon, the fact that pb1 mars was approaching and pc1 mars was leaving makes me believe this condition stayed forefront. It receives 1 count.

3rd Chart
Progressed b3 saturn, at 11 Cancer 13, was still part of his schizophrenic set. It was important, but not part of our mars count.

Progressed birth South Node, at 24 Pisces 48, was still aspecting his venus conjunction mars in Pisces, particularly given the extra orb provided by his c3 North Node at 26 Sagittarius. This constitutes a continuing count of 1.

4th Chart

The progressed node acts like an extra light, strengthening this already forefront set, and making it more likely to be operative. In my experience, progressed harmonic nodes to forefront sets are potent.

Between his previous letter bomb on June 22, 1993 and this one on December 10, 1994, Kaczynski’s progressing B Asc moved from 21 Gemini 35 to 22 Gemini 38, crossing over his b mars at 22 Gemini 05. It was conjunct his birth mars in March, 1994, the midpoint between the two dates. In March, in his 7th chart, he also had a progressed Angle/mercury in Capricorn, and progressed Angle/uranus. People often feel brilliant when uranus comes forefront (again, in K’s case), particularly if it rules c 3rd house, as was the case with Kaczynski. Combined with the interest in mastery symbolized by mercury in Capricorn (ruling his b 3rd house), and his Angle/mars in Gemini (in his 3rd/7th houses), which inclines to multiple activities, it was a time when his intellect was ascendant over his anger, and a fruitful time for research. It does not constitute a new mars count.

The next bomb, which killed Gilbert Murray, was Kaczynski’s last. It was also his most powerful. It blew two office doors off their hinges and sent them spinning through space. It punched fist-sized holes in office walls with flying aluminum fragments. It was only by accident that it did not kill more people than Murray.

“Timber industry lobbyist Gil Murray is killed by the Unabomber’s most powerful bomb yet in the lobby of the California Forestry Association in Sacramento. The return address was Closet Dimensions, Oakland, and was addressed to Murray’s predecessor, William Dennison.”

This chart shows no significant Angle/mars progression for this date, but progressing b10 South Node, at 11 Pisces 05, is still activating his moon/mars/neptune. Count 1 for its continuing influence. Transits to it were interesting:

Transiting South Node stayed conjunction his moon/mars in Pisces, while transiting saturn passed over them around April 22, at the midpoint between when he mailed the bomb and when it was opened by Gil Murray.

Tallies and Discussion
Below is the tally for the number of times forefront mars occurred in each of the five charts.

The 10th chart was twice as active (in terms of quantity) as the 4th chart. It was nearly half-again as active as the 1st and 3rd charts. It was almost three times more active than the 7th chart.

Counting on each date whether or not (yes or no) each of four charts added forefront mars for a bombing, the count for the total of 16 incidents is 11 for the 1st chart, 11 for the 3rd chart, 10 for the 4th chart, 2 for the 7th chart, and 14 for the 10th chart. Except for the 7th chart, they were about equal.

Counting whether or not each date had forefront mars in Pisces (regardless of which chart supplied it, and only allowing one count per date even if more existed), the number is 11 times out of 16 incidents. Since he started out with one mars in Pisces forefront in his 3rd chart, and two mars in Pisces forefront in his 10th, it means that 11 of the 16 times Kaczynski placed or mailed his bombs he had at least one additional forefront mars in Pisces. Either that, or his originally forefront mars in Pisces became forefront in a new way, doubling its influence.

Three of Kaczynski's new forefront mars in Pisces came from the harmonic of his birth mars. Thirteen came from either his conception mars or one of its harmonics, all of which rule C Asc (in b 7th house) and c 5th and 12th houses. Kaczynski’s powerlessness (mars in Pisces) in the face of securing relationship (7th), affection, sex, and children (5th) led to his own imprisonment. It also sponsored the cruel damage he did to individuals and their families’ he either injured or killed.

Counting all the forefront mars by sign on all of the dates, the count comes out as follows:

I counted his four all-charts forefront mars in Pisces once only each date in this particular tally. Two were from progressed Angle to mars; one, from progressed sun to mars, and one from progressed mercury (ruler) to mars. If I were to count them five times each as I did in the first tally, the count for mars in Pisces comes to 42. I do not know which is the better way to do it.

Kaczynski’s (pre-progressed) harmonic mars for each of the four charts were distributed as follows:

Counting his two non-harmonic mars (birth and conception) only once each, he starts out before progressions with a sum total in all five charts with 2 mars in Gemini, 1 in Leo, 2 in Libra, 1 in Scorpio, 3 in Capricorn, and 3 in Pisces.

But his non-harmonic mars are used in each chart. Therefore, counting his non-harmonic mars once for each of the five charts, his total mars distribution in the charts is:

• 6 in Gemini
• 1 in Leo
• 2 in Libra
• 1 in Scorpio
• 3 in Capricorn
• 7 in Pisces

His starting mars distribution does not match distribution of forefront mars through the signs for the bombings. Rather, it does in some ways and does not in others.

Specifically, before progressions his two most frequently occurring mars (almost necessarily his two non-harmonic mars), those in Gemini (mail strife - mars/3rd house) and Pisces (frustrated will - mars/12th) are almost equal. For the bombings, mars in Pisces occurred 5 times more often than mars in Gemini.

For the bombings, his mars in Scorpio (frustrated sharing) is high--10--compared to the 1 he started with. He also started with 1 in Leo, but the bombings gave him only 2.

Relative to his starting distribution, his "bombing mars" in Scorpio is high even for his "bombing mars" in Pisces. To begin with, Pisces (at 7) was 7 times more than his Scorpio mars (at 1). For the events, his Pisces mars (at 26) was only about 2-1/2 times greater than his Scorpio mars (at 10), bringing the importance of Scorpio mars in these events closer to the importance of his Pisces mars.

Starting distribution of his Pisces mars (at 7) and his Capricorn mars (control) (at 3) is 2.3 to 1. Their frequency for the bombings is similar--26 to 10, respectively, or 2.6.

But, his mars in Libra (frustration with important others) starts at 2. It is 6 for the bombings--a threefold increase, putting it right in there with his mars in Capricorn, which increased about threefold, and approaching his mars in Pisces, with a closer to four-fold increase.

Before progression Kaczynski did not have mars in Aries, Cancer, Virgo, Sagittarius, or Aquarius. Only mars in Cancer (agitation about living conditions, end results, and possibly his father--all mars/4th) occurred in the bombings. Its number--5--put it with mars in Libra, Scorpio, Pisces, and somewhat Capricorn, in terms of influence in sponsoring Kaczynski's homicidal anger.

The individual with mars in Aries might kill another, but it would happen in the spur of the moment, probably when his mars was afflicted by saturn or uranus. Mars in Aries makes the individual excellent at pursuing his own, egoistic aims. Presented with an unmovable object, he would, with little fanfare, find his way around it. With so little frustration (except when afflicted by saturn), he would have little anger that could lead to homicide.

I presume in Virgo the mars individual's anger is dissipated before he can act because mars/Virgo involves him in a spaghetti of details to which he never gains e nd enough to act.

With mars in Sagittarius, he rises above his anger, spiritually through religion or philosophy, or physically through hikes, flights, parachuting, exploring, adventure, and so on.

The individual with mars in Aquarius has three problems in terms of successfully committing homicide. (1) He is angry with all humanity. At least, it is a large group. That was ostensibly true of Kaczynski. But, (2) he cannot satisfactorily act simultaneously against the whole group because of its size. And (3) even so, his anger also tends to dissipate through his minimization (Aquarius) of its importance. His importance would follow suit. Some one with mars in Leo would experience the opposite. He would maximize his importance and his anger. Fortunately, he would also have pride such that he would view covert murder--à la Unabomber--as behavior beneath his dignity.

I am not a statistician. I leave conclusions, if any are possible with such small numbers, to them.

I can say that Kaczynski started his bomb missives on progressed Angle to c mars in Pisces plus progressed Angle to his 10th chart moon/mars in Pisces, followed by progressed Angle to his 4th chart moon/mars in Pisces. He returned to bombing following a break of six years when his progressed b sun was in Gemini lighting his Angle-ruling c mars in Pisces, bringing it forefront in all charts.

The much higher occurrence of 10th chart new forefront mars (in any sign) than in any other chart also appears meaningful. Specifically, psychologically it represents (unconscious or, memory fantasy) anger at his mother. The 10th chart also displays information about our social image. During the times of the bombings, Kaczynski was actively frustrated with his place in society. Instead of making concerted efforts to change his position, his efforts were in the direction of blaming, and trying to change, society.
