Notes for VIRGINIA GERTRUDE RAWLINS:
Virginia Gertrude Rawlins was born on December 19, 1925 in Beloit, Rock County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Homer Rawlins and Helen Stoker Rawlins. She was the apple of her father's eye and a very good little girl. THe only real time she was in trouble was when she was sent upstairs when she was young to clean her room. SHe did not want to clean it so she spit down the register tot he downstairs. She always denied doing this but her mother sworn to the story and said she was severely punished for it.
In 1928 she moved with her family to Henry, South Dakota, where they operated a dairy farm and later moved to a farm one mile west of Henry, SD. She attended Henry High School where she was Co--Valedictorian and where she excelled in Band, playing the trumpet. While playing the trumpet at a local basketball game, she was hit with a ball and the trumpet mouth piece broke her front tooth.
After graduation from high school in 1943 she left for Chicago to try out for the Lawrence Welk Band. While there she ran into another South Dakota individual, William F. Trenholm, and on August 15, 1944 they were united in marriage in Chicago, Illinois.
After William completed his special training in the Army, they moved to Macomb, Illinois where he was stationed at Camp Ellis, Illinois. On June 11, 1945, a daughter was born to them in Watertown, South Dakota. Virginia and her daughter, Roxanne, lived with Virginia's parents in Henry, South Dakota until William came back from serving in the army during World War II at which time they moved to Watertown, South Dakota.
All the time their daughter was growing up, Virginia was a homemaker and mother. In 1960 she went to work for the ASCS office in Redfield, South Dakota. In 1965 they moved back to Watertown, SD and she went to work for Gray Photographic Studio and she worked there until January, 1978 when she took her final tests and went to work as a licensed South Dakota agent for Equitable Life Insurance Company. She did very well in the insurance business and retired from Equitable at the age of 75.
After her divorce from William, Virginia later married Richard Skinner on November 19, 1984 in Watertown, South Dakota and lived at 313 N. Broadway in Watertown, SD in a home Virginia bought after her divorce. In November, 2000, Virginia and Richard Skinner purchased a new home at 1600 E. Kemp in Watertown, South DAkota and spent many months fixing it just the way they wanted it and had it looking just like a doll house and show place to be proud of.
Notes for WILLIAM FRANCIS TRENHOLM:
William Francis Trenholm was born February 19, 1920 in Watertown, South Dakota, the son of William Harrison Trenholm and Catherine Eva Coyle Trenholm.
Even as a young boy he was the back bone of the family and worked all of his young life to help support the family. Many times he would go to school with cardboard in his shoes for soles as they were just too poor to afford even new shoes for the children.
William F. Trenholm (known as Frenchy most of his life) went to Watertown High School but quit to help out the family. He later went back to finish high school and graduated from Watertown High School in 1940. He enlisted in the Army during World War II and was a Second Lieutenant, fighting over in Europe during the war. His daughter, Roxanne, has many photographs of the battalion he was in charge of.
On August 15,l 1944 he married Virginia G. Rawlins in Chicago, Illinois. A daughter, Roxanne Virginia, was born to them on June 11, 1945 while he was in the service. He had sent his wife home to her parents when he was shipped over seas and Roxanne was born in WAtertown, South Dakota. He did not even see his daughter until she was a few months old.
After discharge from the service, William moved his family to Watertown, South Dakota, where he went to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone company. In 1951 he was transferred to Wessington Springs, South Dakota, where he served as manager of the telephone company there. In 1958 he was again transferred to Redfield, SD as manager of the telephone company there and helped with the conversion of that telephone company from operator service to dial service.
In 1965 he moved with his wife back to Watertown, SD but continued to work for Northwestern Bell until his retirement in 1981. Northwestern Bell had split into Bell and AT&T and consequently, William retired from Northwestern Bell Telephone Company on December 31, 1981 and from AT&T on January 1, 1982.
He was a leading member of the VFW Club in Watertown, the Telephone Pioneers and the Communication Workers of American along with the Watertown Elks Club.
He and his wife, Virginia, divorced in 1977. He bought himself a home at 401 S. Maple in Watertown, SD and lived there until his death.
After suffering from cancer for 5 years, in November, 1997, he drove his motorhome to Edinburg, Texas for the winter. After getting down there he was taken to the hospital in severe condition and on November 17, 1997 he daughter had him flown back to Watertown, SD by air ambulance due to his terminal condition. After 4 days in the hospital in Watertown, his daughter, Roxanne, took him to her home to care for him and he died there on November 24, 1997 and was buried the day after Thanksgiving, 1997. He is bured in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown, SD.

Notes for ROXANNE TRENHOLM:
Roxanne Virginia Trenholm was born on June 11, 1945, to William Francis Trenholm and Virginia Rawlins Trenholm, at Bartron Hospital, in Watertown, South Dakota. She started school at Lincoln Grade School in Watertown, South DAkota and she and her parents lived at 11 3rd Street SE in Watertown. She had a pet Boston Terrier puppy, named Toy, who walked her to school every day. On her 6th birthday she was given a pet kitten, named Fluffy, and she loved to wheel her cat around dressed in doll clothes and in a doll buggy. That started her lifelong love for cats and she was never without one for long.
When Roxanne was 7 years old she moved with her parents to Wessington SPrings, South Dakota and she attended school there until she finished the 6th grade. At that time the family again moved, this time to Redfield, South Dakota, and she completed her education, grading from Redfield High School in 1963. She was active in the band and took many trips with the Redfield Band. She also loved debate and excelled in Math and English and took part in plays during high school.
In 1965 Roxanne moved to Watertown, SD where she lived for a time with her grandparents and went to work for Midland National Life Insurance Company. In 1967 she quit there and on January 2, 1968 she went to work as a medical secretary for Bartron Clinic in Watertown, SD. On February 9, 1969 she married Ross Mitchell in Watertown, SD. The following January, 1970 they were divorced as he was a severe alcoholic and she could not handle a life like that.
In March, 1970 she met Richard Alan Rossow and on June 4, 1970 they were married in Watertown, South DAkota at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Gustav Van Tassel officiating. They spent their honeymoon in the Black Hills where they did a lot of trout fishing.
