Portions of our letter to the DA

We feel that we have suffered a great loss from what Rick
did to our sister. Mike felt something tragic
would someday happen to Wendy because Rick had
beat her in the past. She loved him beyond reason
and chose to stay with him despite pleas from the
family to get her to leave.

There is an empty hole in our lives now, something that
will always be there because Wendy is gone and how
do you fill that empty space? You can't pick up
the phone and call her to see how she is doing.
You are no longer able to hear her voice or laughter.
There will never be another Christmas or Thanksgiving...
or Birthday. Her face will always be imprinted on my memory...
The places where the make-up was unable to cover the
bruises sufficiently, the eyes now closed forever
and those poor hands, so worn out for someone so
young, never again to feel the children's hair
or caress them as they hugged her. It is sad to feel
such a loss, a deep sorrow I even feel today.

It is hard to even go to the cemetery where she
is buried. Our children grieve over Wendy and
occassionally ask how we think she is doing. They
miss her........

We just can't comprehend the fact that she is
gone. We feel robbed and cheated. Wendy worked
two jobs to support her family and when she got home
she had to do all the housework, cooking, and laundry,
and make sure the children got bathed. She slept
3 to 4 hours most nights and was tired quite often.

November '93 Wendy was coming home. She said she
was finally leaving Rick for good...but she never
made it.

We feel that Wendy was an abused person......

(excerpts from the newspaper article)

Investigators say Pulfrey hit and kicked Powell in the chest
and abdomen in their mobile home.....late Friday night.
After the beating, Powell took refuge at Pulfrey's
parents' home .... and relatives discovered her body
about 7am Saturday.

Powell died in her sleep from severe blunt-force
trauma,....But, other than bumps and bruises, Powell's
visible injuries did not indicate how severely she
was injured internally...

Noyes said, "This case is tragic and
ironic given that this is domestic violence awareness
month."

Rick Pulfrey was sentenced to life in prison. He had pleaded
guilty but mentally ill in a plea bargain that lowered the
second-degree murder charge he initially faced to
the manslaughter conviction

While sentencing Pulfrey to life in prison
the judge also ordered psychiatric treatment....and
expressed the "hope" that (he) would be sent to the
state Human Services Center.....The judge also
said he would not stand in the way of Pulfrey seeking
clemency, if he eventually shows he can maintain
"mental stability"

Wendy's nickname was 'Pooh' I found a wonderful 'Pooh' site at:
