The Magic Mirror
The Magic Mirror is MUD Mage's view of the MUD world. In earlier
versions of MUD Mage, the Magic Mirror was a new feature that could be
enabled for registered users to see ANSI graphics. In MUD Mage 5, the
Magic Mirror is the default view for both unregistered and registered
MUD Mage users.
What is new?
The Magic Mirror is much faster than in previous versions. The ANSI
engine was completely rewritten, using a buffering system for greater
speed, larger incoming data collection, and better ANSI state saving. A
bug in MUD Mage 4 was fixed: ANSI color no longer "leaks" across text.
Toggling the Mirror
The Magic Mirror has two modes: on and off.
When the Magic Mirror is on,
- Fast ANSI graphics are displayed.
- A player may look at previous screens by pressing Page-Up,
Page-Down, Home, and End. If the
Page-Up key is used to look at least one screen behind, the other
keys may be used; otherwise, the Home and End
keys only function on the command line.
- Enough text from the MUD may come such that the buffer refreshes
itself, causing the screen to jump to a future position. Turn off
the Magic Mirror to keep the current history buffer saved while the
MUD is active.
When the Magic Mirror is off,
- The display is raw text, including ANSI codes, and can be copied.
- The history buffer is copied to this view and will not change until
the Magic Mirror is turned on again. If the MUD is still active,
though, the Magic Mirror will continue to monitor incoming text.
- Registered users of MUD Mage will learn of the secret feature
available in this view.
