JOHN JAMES PRITCHARD | WILLIAM HENRY PRITCHARD |
The sixth child and fourth son of John and Mary Pritchard was born at Howick on 26th November 1853. He married Augusta Clara Mould in Sydney, Australia. They had two sons, both born in Sydney. He returned to Gisborne where he too was a labourer and carter. He died in Gisborne on 6th April 1938.

Born in Howick, Mr Pritchard served as a young man with the N.Z. Cavalry. Journeying to Sydney, he joined the N. S .W. permanent forces at the age of 23, enlisting in the artillery section. He was a member of the Australian Contingent which took part in the Egyptian campaigns and was awarded a medal and bar for his service in the Tel-el-Kebir engagement, 1882-1889, as well as the Khedive Star (1882-1890) and the Australian Service Medal. Mr Pritchard, who also took part in the quelling of the Tamai uprising, was wounded in the course of his Egyptian service. At the end of his ten years service, he took his discharge and returned to N.Z.
His first son Heber William (sometimes known as William Herbert) was a baker in Gisborne for many years. He married Annie Selina Alexander at Masterton but returned to Gisborne where he remained until his death on October 25 1946. He had a son and three daughters.
Albert Arthur married Alice Proctor. He was a labourer and died at the age of 37 years. He left two sons, Colin and Albert. (P. Burden)
