Dutch soccerplayers in European cupfinals

 

1999-2000 season:

EC I (Champions League)

Real Madrid was coached by Guus Hiddink (at the beginning of the season but he was fired), and Clerence Seedorf played some games before moving to Inter Milan. Real won 3-0 against Valencia CF.

UEFA - Cup

Dennis Bergkamp and Mark Overmars played the final with Arsenal FC giants Galatasaray 0-0 (after penalties 1-4). The Turks took their penalties better and won, the Dutch were already substituted.

 

2000-2001 season

EC I (Champions League)

Bayern Munich and Valencia CF played in Milan the final and ended undicided (1-1), after extra time the German's won the shoot-out 6 to 5. Referee was Dutchmen Dick Jol , who gave 3 penalties (2 to Bayern, 1 to Valencia, they both scored once).

UEFA - Cup

Sander Westerveld was goalie at Fc Liverpool, who won after Sudden Death, against bask side CD Alaves, with Jordi Cruyff scoring their forth and last goal. The Reds won 5-4 after a own goal of the Spanish! Former Liverpool striker Erik Meijer had already left England for Hamburger SV, otherwise he would have played this final.

 

2001-2002 season

 

Champions League

No Dutchmen or teams in the finals, Ruud van Nistelrooy (Manchester United) became topscorer with 11 goals in his first year in Manchester.

 

UEFA –Cup

 

Dutch giants Feyenoord Rotterdam played Borussia Dormund in Rotterdam: The German champions of tne 2001/02 season played without lately retired Dutch defender Alfred Nijhuis. Feyenoord played with Dutchmen Edwin Zoetebier (goalkeeper), Kees van Wonderen (former NAC Breda), Patrick Paauwe , Paul Bosvelt , super-striker Pierre van Hooijdonk (former NAC Breda) and left-winger Robin van Persie . Japanese midfielder Ono was substituted by defender Ferry de Haan Feyenoord took a 2-0 lead in first half (2 times Van Hooijdonk), Amoroso score 2-1 (penalty). Danish striker Jon Dahl Tomasson (who will play at AC Milan, next season) scored 3-1. Czech 7 footer Jan Koller netted the 3-2. After the 1974 win the Cup is back in Rotterdam! Retiring German defender Jurgen Kohler was sent off in 31st mins. , in his last game ever, after attack on Tomasson………………Penalty!! Van Hooijdonk became UEFA-cup-topscorer with 8 goals.

2002-2003 season

 

Champions League Final in Manchester

 

Italian clash between giants Clarence Seedorf (AC Milan) and Edgar Davids (Juventus) ended 0-0, where Milan won after penalties 3-2. Seedorf played the whole match, where Davids was substituted by Zalayeta Macelo.
Ruud van Nistelrooy (Mancheste United) became topscorer with 12 goals.

2003 UEFA Cup Final

The match between Celic and Fc Porto ended in 2-3 aet, with no Dutch players involved in Seville, former Feyenoord striker Henke Larsson scored 2 goals for Celtic, Dutch Celtic-winger Bobby Petta was not selected for this match.

2003-2004 season

 

Champions League Final in Gelschenkirchen

The match between AS Monaco and Fc Porto (0-3) had no Ducthmen involved.

2004 UEFA Cup Final

The match between Valencia and Olympique Marseille (2-0) had no Dutchmen involved. Serbian Mateja Kezman (PSV Eindhoven) was ex equo topscorer with 6 goals.


2004-2005 season

 

Champions League Final in Istanbul

The match between AC Milan and Fc Liverpool had 2 Ducthmen involved on the Milanese side: Defender Jaap Stam and midfield-star Clarence Seedorf. Underdog Liverpool was behind (with former Feyenoord Rotterdam keeper Dudek) 3-0 after 44 mins. But came back to 3-3 and won after extra and penalties 5-6. Seedorf was substituted by Serginho in the 86. mins. and his Brasilian teammate missed his penalty......
Ruud van Nistelrooy (Manchester United) became topscorer with 8 goals, before 2nd ex equo Makaay (B. Muenchen) and Brasillian Adriano (Inter Milan) with 7.

2005 UEFA Cup Final

The match between Sporting Portugal and CSKA Moskva (1-3) had no Dutchmen involved.

In the 2005 SuperCup match in Monaco between Liverpool FC and CSKA Moskva (3-1 a.e.t.) 2 Dutchmen were involved referee Temmink and Boudewijn Zenden (Liverpool).


2005-2006 season

 

UEFA Cup Final 2005 was played in Eindhoven and Fc Sevilla won 4-0 aganinst Middlesbrough (Eng), with George Boateng and JF. Hasselbaink who were playing 90 minutes. The Champions League Final in Paris was between Ducth Coached FC Barcelona and Arsenal. Coach Frank Rijkaard and his assistent, former NAC Breda-coach, Henk ten Cate won 2-1. The Catalan side played with Gio van Bronckhorst and Mark van Bommel. Arsenal had Dennis Bergkamp and Robin van Persie on the bench.
