Brian Roy
was born in Amsterdam on February 12th 1970 and played for Ajax from his
youth and became a typical left-winger. Brian made his debut for Ajax, as a 17 year
old, under Cruyffs eyes, against Fc Twente and scored!
Made it to
the Dutch national team and debuts against Denmark in Amsterdam (1989) a 2-2
draw. Roy was part of the 1990 WC-squad in Italy (although he didn't paly a
minute!). At the EC-tournament in Sweden (1992) he played all games but again,
scored no goals. At the US WC-tournament in 1994 he scored the winning goal
against Marocco (2-1) in Orlando (Florida). Brian was already a Foggia
(Italy) player by that time, where he played together with Igor Kolyvanov
(Russia). In his top season, 1993-94 in Italy he had scored 11 goals as a
winger! He had made a transfer to Nottingham Forest to become
shadow-forward and played his last cap in Rotterdam against Malta (4-0 win)
when he said "no longer a winger", by that time Overmars and Helder
where the (left-)wingers.
At Forest
he became club-topscorer in the 1995-96 season with 8 goals, one season earlier
he had scored 13. In his last season Roy played together with Pierre van
Hooijdonck (former-NAC Breda).
Roy was
married to Dutch TV-star Nada van Nie and they lived in England for a while,
till Roy's transfer to Hertha BSC (Berlin). In Germany he never
got the chance to show his skills. He didn't play much and got frustrated,
finally he got a transfer to NAC Breda, where he
will play together with Cedric Seedorf (former Inter Milan), Clerence's bother!
In the 2001/02 season he retired
