Crystal Tokyo is Tokyo, the setting of Sailor Moon, in the future (30th Century). Before Crystal Tokyo was created, everyone on Earth was frozen in a deep, dormant stage because of ecological disasters on the planet. But in the 30th Century, Neo-Queen Serenity (Princess Serenity in the future) awoke everyone using the power of Silver Crystal. With the planet re-awakened, Neo-Queen Serenity became it's ruler and Crystal Tokyo was it's capital. Eventually, people who did not want to be cleansed by the Silver Crystal rebelled against Neo-Queen Serenity and started a war. After the war, these traitors were banished onto a cold, dark planet called Nemesis, the tenth planet from the sun, where they started their own civilization.
The black planet Nemisis is a black planet with an environment in which even flowers rarely grow. The people of Nemisis developed supernatural powers from their hatred and madness, thus creating the Family of the Black Moon, an army devoted to get revenge on the people of Earth for banishing them onto the cold and blackened civilization. Soon, a huge attack on Crystal Tokyo from Nemisis started a war against the Earth. The Black Moon Family destroyed much of the population along with the city of Crystal Tokyo. Only the Crystal Palace was spared because the Sailor Soldiers of the future (Sailor Mars, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Jupiter, and Sailor Venus) cast their energy to shield protect the Royal Palace. And during the invasion, they used their powers to put Neo-Queen Serenity in a coffin-like bed protected with hard, lucid stone so she would be safe from the war. Only Neo-Queen Serenity's Silver Crystal could save Crystal Tokyo and reawaken her.
But just before the Black Moon Family attacked Crystal Tokyo, the Silver Crystal disappeared. It had melded into Chibi-Usa's body when she touched it, but no one, not even Chibi-Usa, knew this. Because of this, the Black Moon's attack could not be stop and Earth could not be protected against their evil powers. Prince Demando, the leader of the Black Moon Family, is after the Silver Crystal and is in love with Neo-Queen Serenity.
