The Doom Tree was a life-form that was born on a distant planet that was covered by an ocean. The tree got lonely and wanted companionship. Thus, one day, new life was dubbed from the Doom Tree's body and they lived in peace. It's people gave the Doom Tree energy with their love and friendship, and the tree gave them energy back to survive also, similar to plants that give oxygen to Humans on Earth.
Then, the Doom Tree's children began to quarrel over it's energy and the lost their love for the tree. Their home planet was destroyed by their evil, selfish wars, and the tree escaped into space with some of it's remaining children in search of a new planet to live on. Soon, it's children died out because some planets did not have the appropriate energy for them to survive. Only Ail and Ann were left with the Doom Tree.
Ail and Ann were two children that were the Doom Tree's last hope for peace again. In order for the two of them to survive and find a new home planet to retrieve life energy from, the Doom Tree surrendered it's consciousness to give them enough energy to live until the found an energy source. Ail and Ann took the tree with them to Earth in search of energy so they would not perish. During this time, the Doom Tree had forgoten itself in it's own anger. After long feuds between the Sailor Soldiers and Ail and Ann, the Doom Tree was finally revived by Sailor Moon's loved and it was able to speak. After revealing its history to everyone, Sailor Moon cleansed the Doom Tree.
