Dr. Jerry Humpert helped mentor hundreds of students, colleagues and friends during his long career in the education field. Born in a small town in rural Indiana and a one-time semi-pro baseball player, Jerry got his first teaching position in Tehachapi in the late 1960's. Jerry was active as a high school coach in Tehachapi, including one year as the men's varsity basketball coach during the 1971-72 basketball season.
Dr. Humpert left Tehachapi for a promotional opportunity at Cal State Bakersfield, and then went on to educational opportunities at two different community colleges in the San Diego area --- Grossmont and Cuyamaca.
Humpert passed away on October 3, 2006, at 62 years of age, following a lengthy illness.
