DIII Playoff Action This Week
Both the boys and girls varsity basketball teams at Tehachapi High School will enter the 2011 Central Section Division III post-season playoffs this week with games on the road.
The Warriors (14-12; 8-2) earned a #9 seed and will travel to #8 Foothill-Bakersfield Wednesday night, February 23, for a 7 pm contest. The Warriors are coming off a 2nd place finish in the South Sequoia League behind league champion Bakersfield Christian. Tehachapi has been led this season by junior Cory Lange with a 19.5 points per game average.
Foothill counters with senior guard #22 Justin Leathers at 22 points per game. The Trojans finished in 2nd place in the Southeast Yosemite League behind the champion East High Blades.
The Tehachapi-Foothill winner will meet the winner of #1 seed Hoover-Fresno (20-6; 10-0) and #16 seed Sanger High on Friday, February 25. Hoover was the champion of the North Yosemite League.
The Lady Warriors of first year head coach Mark Bennett were also seeded #9 and will travel to #8 Delano on Tuesday, February 22. Tehachapi (15-11; 8-2) finished the season in 2nd place behind Shafter High. The Lady Warriors have been led this season by Paige Bennett who is sporting a fine 11.8 points per game average.
Delano (15-8; 11-4) finished in 3rd place in the tough East Yosemite League behind Tulare Union and Monache-Porterville.
The Tehachapi-Delano winner will meet the winner of #1 seed Tulare (21-3; 14-2) and #16 Cesar Chavez.
