Warriors Finish .500 in DIL AT 5-5
John Capdeville Selected 1st Team All-DIL

Under first year coach Vic McElroy, the 1963-64 Warriors rebounded from a losing season the previous year to finish at .500 in DIL play with a 5-5 record and 11-7 for the season. Throughout the season the Warriors were led by senior sensation John Capdeville. Joining Capdeville on the court were starters Larry Souza, Carl Brooks, Joe Pollock, and David Williams.

In the pre-league season, the Warriors participated in three tournaments finishing 6-2 in tournament play. In Trona, the Warriors finished 1-1 and took 3rd place; at the annual Kern County Tournament in Bakersfield, Tehachapi won 2 and lost 1, losing to the Garces Rams in the championship game; and in Desert, the Warriors won the tournament by winning three straight games. Capdeville was selected to the all-tournament team in all three tournaments. Joe Pollock joined Capdeville on the all-tournament team in Desert.

Of historical significance, the Warriors scored a school record 100 points in the Desert Tournament against Owens Valley! Capdeville also established a new single game scoring record for the Warriors with 48 points against Rim of the World, also in the Desert Tournament. The 48 point mark broke the previous record of 41 points set by Jim Waters in 1962 against Mojave.

In league play, the Warriors finished 5-5. Their best win was a 55-53 win over Desert on January 11, 1964. Desert and Bishop tied for the league championship with identical 9-1 records. However, Bishop was declared the league champion by virtue of a 56-53 win over Desert in the DIL championship game.

Capdeville was a scoring machine for the Warriors pouring in over 350 points for the season, averaging over 21 points per game.
(Capdeville scoring totals were not available for the Trona Tournament games of Dec. 6-7, 1963.)
