The 1968-69 Warriors include, front row, left to right, Chris Cote, Rick Gary, Manuel Avila, Mike Douglas, Randy Perry,
and Gary Burgeis, standing, Bob Warner, Bob Barnett, John Valdez, Tom Dineley, Don Ward, and John Snyder.


Warriors Suffer First Losing Season Since 1963
Tom Dineley Earns MVP and All-DIL Honors

Under veteran coach Vic McElroy, the 1968-69 Warriors suffered the first Warrior losing season since 1963, finishing 5-8 in league play and 9-14 overall.

Throughout the season, the starting five included guards Mike Douglas, John Valdez, Tom Dineley, and strong forwards Don Ward and Bob Warner.

In the pre-league season, the Warriors participated in three tournaments, finishing 4-4 overall. In the Tehachapi Tournemnt, the Warriors finished 1-1, to earn 3rd place. At the annual Kern County Tournament in Bakersfield, the Warriors also won 1 and lost 1, defeating Garces, but losing to Shafter. In the Desert Tournament, the Warriors won 2 and lost 2, finishing in 4th place. The Warriors had one of their best wins of the season, defeating Rosamond in the tournament. John Valdez was selected to the All-Tournament team in Desert.

In Desert-Inyo League play, the Warriors earned five wins defeating Bishop, Lone Pine, Paraclete, Kern Valley. and Mojave. Rosamond and Desert won the league finishing 12-1 in league play. Throughout the season, Rosamond was led by the dynamic duo of Norman Stancil (6'6") and Reggie Graves (6'3").

Tom Dineley led the Warriors in scoring with 174 points in league games for a 13.3 average. Big man Don Ward gathered in 115 rebounds in league competition to lead the Warrior team. For his efforts, Dineley was named the Most Valuable Player of the team and earned All-DIL Honorable Mention honors.
