Under veteran coach Vic McElroy, the Warriors suffered a second straight losing season finishing 5-8 in Desert-Inyo League (DIL) play and 9-13 overall for the season. Warriors Suffer Second Straight Losing Season
Center Bob Warner Named Team MVP
In the pre-league season, the Warriors finished with a 4-5 record. In the 6th annual Tehachapi Tournament, the Warriors finished in 3rd place with a 1-1 record, with 6'3" center Bob Warner named to the all-tourney team. In the annual Kern County Tournament, Tehachapi won 1 and lost 1; and in the Desert Tournament, the Warriors went 1-2.
In league play, the Warriors best win was a 37-35 upset over Desert; guard Russ Ary led Tehachapi with 19 points. The Scorpions finished the season in 2nd place (11-2), advancing to the CIF playoffs. The DIL was won by Trona with a perfect 13-0 record. The Tornadoes advanced to the CIF 1A finals, losing to Harvard, 54-52, and finishing the season with a 29-1 record.
Throughout the season, the Warriors were consistently led by seniors Warner and Ary. Warner led the team in scoring and rebounding. Warner scored 122 points in non-league games, and 159 points in league play, for a 281 point total. Warner finished the season with a 12.8 points per game average, and was named the team MVP.
No Warriors were selected on the all-DIL team in 1969-70.
