Warriors Fall To Burroughs On The Road

Posted on September 10, 2014 by Tom Shea, The Tehachapi News

The Warriors and Burros were in a seesaw battle for most of the evening last Friday night before Burroughs pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat Tehachapi, 35-21.

After Mountain Football’s opponent went up 2-0 off a bobbled punt snap that went through the end zone for a safety, Tehachapi (1-1) reeled off an 87-yard drive in the first quarter
that was capped with a Willy Urciel 11-yard touchdown run. The drive was assisted with three 15-yard penalties by Burroughs,
who closed the evening with 14 penalties for 130 yards by game’s end.

The Warriors would record another score on a 15-yard touchdown reception by Nick Steele from quarterback Chris Llamas, with Burroughs (1-1) answering both
first-half scores with a pair of touchdown runs to take a slim lead into the locker room, 15-13.

Mountain Football answered back in the beginning of the third quarter with an 80-yard drive that was finished off with a Willy Urciel one-yard touchdown run.
After Chris Rhodes punched in the two point run, the Warriors took the lead back, 21-15.

Momentum shifted Burroughs direction on the ensuing kickoff, taking a kick return 87 yards to the Tehachapi 11-yard line. Two plays later, BHS punched in a quick touchdown
run to take the lead back for good. After two more fourth quarter scores, Burroughs finished off the night with the final 35-21 count.

Urciel finished as Tehachapi’s leading rusher with 91 yards on 16 carries, followed by Rhodes with 80 yards on 13 carries.

Llamas finished with four completions for 73 yards and the second quarter touchdown. Steele had two catches for 37 yards,
Jake Walters a catch for 23 yards and Connor O’Neal a fourth quarter completion for 13 yards.
