Tehachapi Records Opening Game Win, 55-35
Offenses put on an impressive show for Tehachapi and Exeter last Friday night, with both teams combining for 929 yards and 13 touchdowns. By game’s end, the Warriors eventually pulled away with a 55-35 victory.
Each team traded blows in the first half, with the Warriors striking in the first quarter with two touchdown runs by Skylar Valencia of 84 and 71 yards and Bobby Howell connecting with Dalton Scaggs for a passing strike of 76 yards.
In the second quarter, the Warriors added two more scores with a pair of running jaunts by Barry Jones and Jorge Garcia for 29 and 70 yards, respectively.
However, the stubborn Exeter offense would not go away quietly, answering each Tehachapi touchdown with one of their own. At halftime, the Warriors racked up 365 yards while Exeter had 281 yards of total offense.
The Warriors adjusted their scheme in the second period and registered three churning drives that ate up nearly 17 minutes of game clock. All three marches were capped with scores, one by Jones and two by Christian Terle.
Valencia ended as the top rusher on the evening with 186 yards, followed by Garcia with 113 yards, Terle with 83 yards and Jones with 52 yards on the ground.
Tyree White and Caleab Hutto also had carries towards the 444 yards rushing for Mountain Football.
On defense, Ty Curry, David Carter and Angel Garcia recorded sacks, Justin Baird and Jeremy Duff had fumble recoveries and Steven Cross recorded a game ending interception.
Scaggs also led special teams by going 7-8 on extra point attempts, while Duff had 290 yards recorded on kickoffs.
Up next for the Warriors is a contest against Burroughs at Ridgecrest this Friday evening. The game will start at 7 p.m.

EXETER – After a first half offensive clinic for both teams that registered nine touchdowns and 646 yards of total offense, the Warriors settled down with a methodical ball control run game in the second period to run away with a 55-35 win over Exeter.
The Warriors needed only two plays to score their first touchdown of the season on a Skylar Valencia 84 yard sweep. Valencia scored again on Tehachapi’s next offensive series on just the Warriors third play, finishing with 186 rushing yards overall on just seven carries.
Tehachapi churned out 444 rushing yards overall, with Jorge Garcia recording 113 yards and a score and Christian Terle and Barry Jones combining for 135 yards and a pair of touchdowns each. The Warriors also had a connection through the air on a Bobby Howell to Dalton Scaggs completion for a touchdown in the first quarter.
With each Warrior score, the Monarchs responded behind quarterback Cody Tilly, who had three first half touchdowns. Tilly finished with 22-32 passing and 236 yards through the air by night’s end, with Trevor Weaver serving as his top target with 113 receiving yards on nine catches and a score.
In the ground game, Austin Cardoza led Exeter with 112 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
