SEYL Championship Game This Friday
The Warrior offense scored on six of their first seven possessions and the defense was relentless en route to a 49-14 victory over Foothill last Friday night.
Mountain Football accumulated 406 yards of total offense to keep their league record unblemished through four games.
Tehachapi (8-1; 4-0 SEYL) was led in the ground game by Jorge Garcia, who had a season-high 213 rushing yards on 24 carries, scoring three touchdowns on the night. It was the fourth consecutive week that Garcia scored three touchdowns or more, bringing his overall season total to 1,175 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. Garcia has ran all season behind huge running lanes provided by Andrew Jimenez, Kyle Parks, Joseph Blewett, Trey Abarquez and Andrew Garber, among others.
Ty Curry, Chris Rhodes, Skylar Valencia, Caleab Hutto and Barry Jones all combined for the other 92 rushing yards on the night, with Curry and Hutto scoring on touchdown runs. Jones also had a touchdown run the week prior against North to bring his season total to 418 yards rushing and six touchdowns.
In the passing game, Bobby Howell threw for 101 yards passing on six completions, finding Valencia and Jeremy Duff on touchdown receptions of 41 and 10 yards, respectively. Ryan Flick led the team in receptions and yardage on the night with three catches for 44 yards.
On defense, Tehachapi had 10 tackles behind the line of scrimmage, limiting Foothill (3-6; 2-2 SEYL) dynamic running back Brandon Fanning to only 96 yards on the ground. Fanning had 516 rushing yards in three league games coming into the contest with Tehachapi, including 174 yards against Garces the week before.
Defensive standouts included Michael Contreras with a first half sack, while Blake Panek and Hutto had fumble recoveries and Steven Cross an interception.
On special teams, Duff set a team record by moving second all-time in THS history in PATs, joining a handful of former Warriors that have connected on seven one point conversions after touchdowns in one game. Dakota Medovitch also had a season-high 49 yards on punt returns.
With league play concluding next week, Tehachapi will have a winner-take-all league championship this Friday night at Coy Burnett Field against Garces.
