Bulldogs Score Late To Down Warriors, 13-10
Mountain Football's offense was held at bay for most of the night last Friday night in Bakersfield, and a patient and opportunistic Golden Valley team took advantage for a 13-10 victory over the Warriors.
Tehachapi (5-3; 2-1 SYL) recorded 171 rushing yards on the ground, with most of the load coming from Chris Rhodes, who had 94 yards on 22 attempts.
Jake Walters also contributed on the night with two catches for 57 yards, his first catch helping to set up a 21-yard field goal by Abraham Katona right before halftime. Noah Whitlach threw the pass completion and later recorded Tehachapi's only touchdown of the night on a six-yard run in the third quarter.
Willy Urciel had 50 yards rushing on 16 attempts and Keyron Scott had 29 yards on the ground on six carries.
On special teams, Tehachapi recorded two turnovers. Whitlach recovered an onside kick and Juan Cabrera recovered a muffed punt.
The Warriors will have another league contest in Bakersfield this week against Ridgeview. The varsity contest will start at 7:30 p.m. this Friday night.

Rallying behind the legs and arm of quarterback Tyler Waters, the Bulldogs pulled off a shocker at home with a 13-10 upset win over Tehachapi.
Tyler Waters rushed for 93 yards and the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter to help secure the win for Golden Valley (5-3; 1-2 SYL).
Waters touchdown came on a 10-yard run in the fourth quarter, capping an 80-yard drive that registered five first downs and a key strike to Jachi Harrell for 16 yards that helped set up the score.
After helping the Bulldogs take the lead for good, Waters closed the door on possible Warriors comeback attempt by completing three consecutive first down passes to Jacob Vallejo for 35 total yards, eating away most of the remaining fourth quarter clock.
The Warriors eventually got the ball back on a turnover on downs late in the fourth quarter, but a completion for 22 yards from Paul Stephens to Jake Walters was not enough to muster a miracle comeback for Tehachapi (5-3; 2-1).
Golden Valley drew the game’s first points when Waters connected on a 26-yard crossing pattern to Eddie Pulley for a touchdown.
Waters finished the game with 138 yards passing on 13 completions, with his favorite target being Vallejo, who finished with six catches for 63 yards. Pulley and Harrell also combined for five catches for 62 yards.
The Warriors had scoring opportunities in the first half but could not establish any momentum on offense.
Tehachapi’s first scoring chance came in the opening quarter when Juan Cabrera recovered a muffed punt at the 28-yard line. The Warriors could not capitalize on the short field position, turning the ball over on downs on the drive.
The Warriors secured their first points of the night late in the second quarter on a 21-yard field goal by Abraham Katona, set up on a pitch pass from Noah Whitlach to Jake Walters for 35 yards deep in Golden Valley territory.
In the second half, Whitlach recorded the Warriors lone touchdown of the night on a six-yard run, a drive which Tehachapi converted two fourth downs on a 46-yard march.
Chris Rhodes was the leading rusher for Tehachapi with 94 yards on 22 carries, followed by Willy Urciel with 50 yards on 16 attempts. Walters also had two catches for 57 yards for the Warriors.
