On The Road, 35-14
Led by a smothering defense and a heavy dose of Jorge Garcia and Barry Jones, Mountain Football rolled to a 35-14 league win over Highland last Friday night.
Garcia paced the running attack with a season game-high 175 rushing yards and four touchdowns, while Jones had 91 yards on the ground on 13 carries to help the Warriors to 391 yards of total offense. With the mountain football offense scoring on three of their four possessions in the second quarter to build a 28-7 halftime lead, the defense made sure the lead would never be relinquished.
The secondary, led by Nathan Evans, Logan Smith, Bobby Sharp, Ian Neufeld, Dakota Medovitch, Steven Cross and Ty Curry among others, put the squeeze on Highland by allowing only 39 yards passing.
The secondary also recorded two interceptions by Neufeld and Curry, while the defensive front line allowed only 90 yards on the ground. Tehachapi (6-1; 2-0 SEYL) also received a spark in special teams from Jeremy Duff, who had two touchbacks on kickoffs and a perfect 5-5 on point after attempts.
Other leaders included Curry recording a late second quarter touchdown run, and Caleab Hutto, Isaiah Hutto and Skylar Valencia combining for 77 yards rushing. Bobby Howell also completed two passes in the game, one to Medovitch for 25 yards and another to Ryan Flick for 23 yards.
The Warriors will be back at home for the first time in over a month this week when they take on North in homecoming. The game against the Stars will start at 7:30 p.m.
