Head Coach Bernie Hill, 32 years old in 1956, was a graduate of Linfield College
in McMinnville, Oregon. Coach Hill led the 1956 Warriors to a perfect 10-0 record in 1956 and
the Championship of the San Joaquin Valley. It was only the second time in the history
of the school that the varsity football team went undefeated (the other season being 1951).
Prior to Tehachapi, Hill was a teacher at Philomath, Oregon and Glide, Oregon.
Coach Hill and wife Donna, also a teacher at Tehachapi High School (Girls PE), spent the 1956-57 school
year in Tehachapi before the couple moved to the Los Angeles area to continue their respective
teaching and coaching careers. Hill went to work for Bonita High School in LaVerne, CA. while his
wife accepted a teaching position at nearby Upland High School.
Hill was raised in Brownsville, Oregon and was also a World War II veteran.
