Football In High Gear
THS Season Kicks Off This Weekend

Posted on August 17, 2010, by Tom Shea, The Tehachapi News

Football season is officially here this weekend, with Mountain Football set to have an inner-squad scrimmage.

The Warriors, Braves and Indians will hold team pictures starting at 7 a.m. at Coy Burnett Field this Saturday, Aug.21 at 7 a.m. At the conclusion of pictures for each respective team, a live-tackle inter-squad scrimmage will be conducted.

"It's important that fans try and arrive as early as possible, there will not be a set time for the scrimmage to start," said athletic director Pat Snyder. "Fans are encouraged to come out. We'll probably start somewhere between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m."

A controlled three-way scrimmage is also scheduled for next Friday (Aug.27) against West and Highland High, starting at 3 p.m. at Coy Burnett Field.

Admission is free to both contests. Fans are encouraged to bring shade and water for both events.

Alumni Tehachapi and Garces game scheduled

A week after the Ogilvie Bowl between Tehachapi and Garces on Sep.10, the Warriors will host an alumni football game between Tehachapi and Garces High School on Saturday, Sep.18 at Coy Burnett Field. The event is open to all athletes that played for either Tehachapi or Garces in previous football seasons.

The game will be full contact football and all gear is provided, excluding cleats.

"The alumni games are a blast and will bring back memories of years gone by," said event coordinator Jarrod Hargrave. "There’s no time like the present to get back into the game and ball it up with your high school teammates."

Athletes that participate will be supporting their alumni school, with a portion of the proceeds to be given specifically each school’s athletic program.

All interested players can reserve a spot on their alumni team roster by contacting Coach Hargrave at 343-5635.

THS Booster Fundraiser this Friday night

The Tehachapi Warrior Booster Club would like to invite previous season members and new parents and fans to the annual membership dinner, set to be held this Friday, Aug.20 at the THS cafeteria from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The cost of the event is $10 a person for a steak dinner. At the event you may renew and purchase Booster membership, renew and purchase green seats (50-yard line) for football games, and pick up a hat and t-shirt. Nominations for the upcoming director elections will also be on the agenda.

Just this past year, the Booster Club has made numerous positive and vital contributions towards THS athletics. Some of the donations have included $10,000 to the THS athletic department to assist with budget cuts, $24,000 for safety and training equipment, field equipment, uniforms, sports programs, athletic recognition, and the awarding of seven $500 scholarships to deserving student athletes. The club has also provided individual recognition (athlete of the month and end of season awards), hotel expenses for traveling teams, start-up funds for team snack bars and fundraisers, plus much more.

If there are parents and volunteers that want to make a difference in young lives within our community, look no further than the THS Booster club. The organization's success depends on the support of community volunteers, especially incoming freshmen-athlete parents, to help keep the THS tradition alive and strong.
