West High at Tehachapi In Opening Round
The 2012 Warrior football team has a more clear picture on their playoff hopes this season after the brackets were released Saturday morning from the CIF Central Section administrative offices in Porterville.
Tehachapi was given a #6 seed and a first round game at home against the West High Vikings. Tehachapi, a 21-7 loser to SEYL champion Garces Friday night, defeated West High earlier this season 34 to 29 in Bakersfield.
Garces earned a #1 seed and a first round bye. The Rams will meet the winner of the Monache-Porterville (#9) - Kingsburg (#8) game on Friday, November 16, in Bakersfield.
The Warriors finished the regular season at 8-2, 4-1 in SEYL play, and will be advancing to the post-season playoffs for the 17th straight season under head coach Steve Denman. West Bakersfield High School finished at 4-6 for the season; 2-2 in South Yosemite League play.
The winner of the Tehachapi-West game will travel to Lemoore to face the Tigers in second round action. Lemoore, co-champions of the West Yosemite League, has a first round bye.
Earning the highest seeds in Division II were #1 Garces (9-1); #2 Sanger (8-2); #3 Lemoore (7-3); and #4 El Diamante-Visalia (7-3).
All first round playoff games begin Friday, November 9, at 7:00 pm.
There are 11 teams in the Division II tournament, and the Warriors would have to win four straight games to win a DII championship.
