- Warriors Prep For Season Against South -
In the first action of 2013, it was Mountain Football’s defense that stole the show by holding South scoreless in a controlled scrimmage last Friday in Bakersfield.
The Rebels were held to only six first downs overall and relinquished three turnovers, all coming by way of interceptions in the secondary.
South’s best scoring opportunity came on their first offensive series when utility back Keith Evans hauled in a 45 yard reception, setting South up with a first and goal at the THS five yard line. However, two plays later, the scoring threat was thwarted when Tehachapi’s Dakota Medovitch snagged an interception in the end zone for a touchback.
In the Warriors second defensive series, Isaiah Hutto and Robert South recorded two more interceptions. South’s pick was snagged in open space and would have had the potential for a defensive score in a real game setting.
Leading THS in tackles was Sean Casey with six takedowns, followed by Ty Curry, David Carter, Jerry Castaneda, Angel Garcia and Nathan Collier each with five takedowns apiece.
On offense, Christian Terle led the Warriors with 49 yards on the ground, while Caleab Hutto scored on a 33-yard sally run in the final play of Tehachapi’s first series.
The season opener for Tehachapi will be this Friday night at home against Exeter. The varsity will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. at Coy Burnett Field.
Junior Varsity Braves
The Braves had an impressive showing in scrimmage action last Friday afternoon, reeling off six touchdowns and 226 rushing yards overall against the South jayvee team.
Keyron Scott had 95 yards rushing on seven carries and three touchdowns, while Taydin Macon, Chase Podratz, and Troy Noda had touchdown scores. Noah Whitlach also had 40 yards on four carries.
Jacob Gonzales led the defense with six tackles on the night, followed by Gabe Dodge with four tackles and Caleb Huebner and Chase Podratz with three tackles each. Carson Bethany also had an interception in the endzone to deny South a score on their first offensive series.
Freshmen Indians
The Indians opened up their season with a handful of good plays on offense and defense last Friday in Bakersfield.
Josiah Lundquist scored on a five yard run near the conclusion of scrimmage action while Paul Stephens-Green had two completions for 20 yards to Philippe Vachon and Logan Snyder. Tyler Metzler also had a 10 yard completion to Cameron Walsh.
Kyle Winn led the team on defense with two fumble recoveries, a sack and three tackles. Bobby Gallegos also had a fumble recovery.
