Among League's Best
The Warriors had another strong season in the Yosemite division ranks this past season, earning second place in the Southeast Yosemite League.
Tehachapi (8-4; 4-1 SEYL) rushed for 284.5 yards per game and 52 total touchdowns, while also logging in 45 sacks and 14 interceptions on defense.
Leading the way was 16 players that were named to the league’s first, second and honorable mention teams.
Earning first team recognition was Micah Fjeld (DE), David Carter (LB), Ty Curry (LB), Dakota Medovitch (DB/P), Joseph Blewett (OL),
Gunther Murphy (OL), Skylar Valencia (RB) and Christian Terle (RB).
Earning second team honors was Steven Cross (DB), Willy Urciel (DL), Rocky Radcliff (OL), Greg Dodge (OL) and Logan Soto (TE).
Cross is a two time selection to the All-SEYL team, finishing with 42 tackles this past season. Urciel had 39 tackles and three sacks,
while Logan Soto was the leading receiver on the team with seven receptions for 83 yards.
Honorable mention went to Nathan Evans (LB), Sean Casey (LB) and Trey Abarquez (OL). Evans had 62 tackles, five sacks and two interceptions while Sean Casey had 75 tackles,
four sacks and two interceptions. Casey was also an automatic qualifier to the 2014 US Army Arena Bowl.
Below is a breakdown of all first team selections for the Warriors.
David Carter – Senior
A dominating linebacker for the Warriors, Carter had the most overall tackles for Mountain Football with 135 takedowns this past season.
Carter was also a weapon for Tehachapi on offense with six touchdowns rushing.
Carter is a first time All-SEYL selection and was also named as a Hometown Sports All-Star.
Skylar Valencia – Senior
The talented running back for Tehachapi had a year to remember with 1,478 yards rushing, 52 yards receiving, 23 touchdowns,
and tying a Warrior record for touchdowns in one game with five against North. Valencia is a first time All-SEYL selection
and was also named as a Hometown Sports All-Star and automatic qualifier for the 2014 US Army Arena Bowl.
Christian Terle – Senior
The bruising fullback was second on the team in rushing with 820 yards and seven touchdowns on the season.
Terle also tied a Warrior record for touchdowns in one game with five recorded in the SEYL opener against East.
Terle, a first time All-SEYL selection, was also named a Hometown Sports All-Star.
Micah Fjeld – Senior
The talented defensive end was second on the team in total tackles with 83 on the season, averaging 7.5 tackles per game.
Fjeld also had four sacks, 22 hurries and three fumble recoveries on the defensive line.
Fjeld is a first time All-SEYL selection and was also named as a Hometown Sports All-Star.
Ty Curry – Senior
One of the best linebackers in Warrior history, Curry finished his tenure at THS as one of the select few players to serve as a three-year starter for THS.
Curry finished his senior season with 70 tackles, five sacks, three hurries and two fumble recoveries. In three years for Tehachapi,
Curry amassed an amazing 244 tackles and 12.5 sacks. Curry is a two-time All-SEYL first team selection and was also named as a
Hometown Sports All-Star for the second year in a row.
Joseph Blewett – Senior
The two-time first team All-SEYL offensive lineman had another year to remember, helping to pave the Warrior running lanes to 3,414 yards
rushing and 47 total touchdowns while also contributing on defense with 18 tackles.
Blewett, a three-year starter for Tehachapi, was also named as Hometown Sports All-Star for the second straight year.
Gunther Murphy – Senior
Murphy helped lead an offensive front that averaged 6.23 yards per carry in the wing-t attack and eight running backs that had 100 yards or
more on the season. Murphy is a first time selection to the first team All-SEYL squad,
along with being named a Hometown Sports All-Star.
Dakota Medovitch – Senior
One of the top punters and defensive backs in Kern County, Medovitch earned a second-straight first team All-SEYL and Hometown Sports All-Star selection.
The special teams standout averaged 35.9 yards per punt this season, with nine punts pinned inside the opponent’s 20 yard line.
Medovitch also had 100 total yards on punt returns, 50 tackles, three interceptions, 30 yards receiving and a rushing touchdown.
