Warrior Website Expanding To Include
Warrior Basketball History

Posted by thswarriors.com on December 17, 2008

In the next few weeks, www.thswarriors.com will be expanding to include a historical documentary on the Warrior basketball program. Five years in the making, the basketball version of this website will chronicle the program since basketball began in 1930-31.

The basketball site will feature a year-by-year record of each Warrior team, all-time head coaching records, playoff results, features, and a whole lot of interesting information for Warrior fans. The site will also feature some Lady Warrior information dating back to the humble beginnings of the program in the mid-1970's.

The football website has been online since September of 2000, and gets an estimated 2,000 hits per week during the 12-14 week football season.

Here is a sample of a selected year as a preview:

1940-41 Warriors

League Record: 4-2 (14-9 Overall)

The 1940-41 Warriors include, front row, left to right, Ralph Medina, Frank Partin, Freeman Welsh, middle row, Clyde Vincent, Frank Hainline, George Northwang, Coach Joe Kelly, back row, Jesus Castro, Arthur Madding, Harold Hicks, and Clyde Kirkbride.

"Coach Joe Kelly's varsity (basketball) squad this year was the greatest team in the history of Tehachapi High School and was rated by some as the third best team in Kern County.

The well drilled varsity Warrior cage team was composed of four seniors: Welsh, Partin, Hicks, and Castro. These boys played brilliant ball throughout the season.

More games were played this year by the varsity team than ever before. The team participated in two tournaments, dropping the one held (in) by Lancaster by two points in the final game; and were eliminated by a strong Santa Paula team in the semi-finals by one point in the Santa Paula Tournament.

In the South Sierra League, Maricopa, the best team in Kern County, was the only team to defeat the mighty Warriors (in league play).

Jesus Castro, the Warrior center, made the first team All-Sierra League and second team All-Valley. Harold Hicks, Arthur Madding, and Frank Partin made the All-Sierra League second team." --- 1941 Tamahawk
