Congrats To The Champions!

Tehachapi closed a banner 2008 with four league titles, a section-runner up and two section championships, setting great momentum for the rest of the 2008-2009 school year.

Highlighting the season was Mountain Football (10-4 record) and Mountain Tennis (17-3 record). The volleyball team also reached the CIF championship and clinched a state-playoff berth for the second consecutive year, going to the CIF championship for the third time in four years and setting a new SSL record for most wins in one season of volleyball (33-6).

In league, the varsity girls golf team won a championship in their first-ever season, while junior varsity football, junior varsity girls cross country and junior varsity girls tennis all won SSL titles.

In football, Steve Denman coupled last season’s ALL-TIME ’winningest’ coach in Kern Country (221st win over Highland-Bakersfield) with unanimous All-Area 2008 Coach of the Year honors.

Our Warriors won the school’s 10th Central Section championship in school history this past month with a thrilling 21-14 victory over Hanford! To put the championship in perspective for football…since 1980 Tehachapi has been to 14 CIF title games in 28 years (1 out of every 2 years) and has won seven titles during that span (a CIF championship every four years). An amazing accomplishment!

Congrats to all of the THS athletes and coaches on their fabulous seasons!

Tehachapi is the TOP school in Division III in 2008-2009, with three out of four fall varsity sports reaching the CIF Championship! The success is a tribute to the hard work of the young men and woman and the sacrifice made by the parents and coaches…thank you to EVERYONE for representing Tehachapi so well!
