Bakersfield - Showcasing an explosive offense their first two games of the season, Tehachapi switched gears by putting their defense on display in a 21-0 shutout victory over North.
Tehachapi (2-1) limited the Stars to only 119 yards of total offense, forcing five punts and three turnovers.
One of the turnovers set the tone early with a punt block that was recovered by Jack Blewett at the North 1-yard line.
Two plays later, Bobby Howell scored on a quarterback keeper to put the Warriors up 7-0. The rushing touchdown was one of few early offensive highlights for Tehachapi, which was held to only 72 yards rushing in the first half.
"We played a great defensive game, but overall we have a long way to go," said Tehachapi coach Steve Denman. "We made some big plays but we're not doing the fundamentals right. It was ugly, but it was a win."
Tehachapi was stymied on offense with 11 penalties for 90 yards. Despite the miscues, Tehachapi was able to get a 63-yard touchdown reception by Cory Lange before halftime and a 10-yard rush by Marcus Curiel to put the game away with seven minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Curiel was the leading rusher in the contest with 147 yards on 13 carries, with 124 yards coming in the second half.
"Tehachapi was a good team and they were ready for us," said North coach Cy Silver. "Preparation starts on Monday and we'll need to bounce back and learn from this."
Brodie Smith led North (1-1) with 49 yards rushing, while Cody McWilliams had 34 yards on the ground. Darryle Baker led the Stars receivers with two receptions for 30 yards.
