Posted by The Tehachapi News, on September 30, 2017. Warriors Blanked By North Bakersfield, 13-0
Mountain Football had a promising start to the game in the first quarter with a 55-yard drive that netted four first downs, but after a turnover deep in the North red zone that thwarted a scoring chance, that would be as close as the Warriors would get to scoring in a 13-0 loss to the Stars.
Both teams played strong defense, with North the only team able to muster any points. North scored their first touchdown on a Victor Boggs 10-yard reception from Bailey West in the second quarter and again on a Chris Romero one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Dylan Ragsdale led the Tehachapi (1-4) defense with 15 tackles and two sacks, followed by Hayden Palmer (11 tackles) and Connor Timm, Logan Smith and Luke Soto with seven tackles apiece. Soto also recorded two sacks. The Warriors also forced three turnovers in the game, with Palmer recording an interception and Mason Kiernan and Peyton Stowers both logging in fumble recoveries.
Other defensive standouts included Favian Garcia, Noah Howell and Kiernan with five tackles each, with Kiernan also recording a sack.
“The defense played hard all night, it is just a tough game to lose,” said head coach Doug DeGeer. “We just could not get any points on the board. The opportunities were there for us.”
Trevor Medovitch led the receiving corps with four catches for 33 yards, followed by Tanner Love with two receptions for 10 yards.
Connor Timm led the ground game with 46 yards on 11 carries, while Soto had 15 yards on three rushing attempts and six completions for 43 yards at quarterback.
Overall, Tehachapi had three turnovers in the game, two interceptions and a fumble.
“The turnovers definitely hurt us. It is something we need to fix in practice, especially moving forward with the rest of our schedule,” added DeGeer. “We just have to keep working hard, believe in each other and prepare for league.”
The Warriors will start South Yosemite League action this Friday night at Independence. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. in Bakersfield.
