TEHACHAPI -- Sean Finley hasn't become accustomed to watching games from the sidelines, but he didn't seem to mind on Friday night.
With his team comfortably ahead, Finley happily cheered on his less-heralded Tehachapi High teammates from the sidelines in the second half. Finley rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries to help lead Tehachapi to a 49-33 first-round playoff victory over Fresno-Roosevelt.
"It was great to see the other guys perform," Finley said. "They did well. ... It was a good win for us."
After leaving in the third quarter, Finley watched backup Gabe Bressler, who was recently called up from the junior varsity, score on touchdown runs of 12 and 41 yards.
As usual, Tehachapi High did most of its damage on the ground. The Warriors rushed for 452 yards as Tehachapi held off a late Roosevelt comeback bid.
"Tehachapi runs some basic plays," Roosevelt coach Jojo Reyes said. "We were just overpowered. We knew what plays they were running. We just couldn't stop them."
Fifth seeded Tehachapi (7-4) will play at No. 4 seed Delano next week.
Roosevelt (0-11) outscored Tehachapi 26-21 in the second half thanks to two long touchdown passes from Tony Zaragoza to Dexter Jones in the final two minutes.
"We have built up a lot of young talent," Reyes said. "They showed a lot of heart. It's been a long season. But Roosevelt is on the way back."
Tehachapi scored touchdowns on its first five drives to take a 35-7 lead after the first possession of the second half.
Finley appeared stopped in the backfield, before breaking to the outside and running 46 yards down the right sideline for a touchdown to put the Warriors up by four scores.
Finley also scored on a 7-yard touchdown run to put Tehachapi ahead 21-7 with 1:39 left in the first half.
Robert Wright caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Hansen with 21 seconds left in the first half to help stake Tehachapi to a 28-7 halftime lead. The play was Tehachapi's only completed pass of the game.
E.J. Muro of Tehachapi intercepted a pass by Zaragoza two plays before.
Dan Haycock powered his way into the end zone from a yard out and Fernando Gracian had a 63-yard touchdown run to help the Warriors to a 14-0 lead.
