FRESNO -- In a game riddled by penalties, the Tehachapi Warriors spoiled the homecoming festivities for Roosevelt High School by dominating play in a lopsided 41-7 non-league victory. The win improves Tehachapi's season record to 3 wins and 2 losses.
On their opening possession in the first quarter, the Warriors drove 75 yards for a touchdown behind the running of Gabe Bressler and Louis James. Bressler capped off the drive with a 2 yard plunge for the TD. The PAT kick was good by Stefan Bekker and Tehachapi led 7-0 at the 5:57 mark.
The Warriors next score came mid-way through the 2nd period on a key 40 yard pass play from QB Ehren Ochsenrider-to-Stefan Bekker to set up a 1st down at the Roosevelt 20 yard line. Bressler then ran for 5 yards to the 15, and Bekker finished the drive with a nifty 15 yard run to score the second Warrior TD with 7:05 left in the 2nd quarter. The Bekker PAT kick made the score 14-0.
On their next possession, Roosevelt put together a serious drive marching down to the Warrior 20 yard line. The threat ended however when Franky Rodriquez intercepted a RoughRider pass at the 6 yard line.
The Warriors then drove 94 yards for a touchdown culminated by a Ochsenrider-to-Rodriquez pass reception of 34 yards. The Bekker PAT kick was good and the Warriors led 21-0 with 2:09 left in the half.
Tehachapi received the opening kickoff in the 2nd half and again put together an 83 yard touchdown drive to take a commanding 27-0 lead. James scored the Warriors' fourth TD of the evening, a 25 yard run, with 8:36 left in the 3rd quarter. James would finish the game with a net 134 yards rushing. The PAT kick failed.
On their next possession, Roosevelt fumbled and the Warriors recovered on their own 40 yard line. After a personal foul penalty (and there were plenty to go around in this game) put the ball at the 25, the Warriors again moved the ball 75 yards downfield scoring on a 36 yard touchdown play by Josh Strauss. The PAT kick was good, and with 3:13 left in the 3rd quarter, the Warriors led 34-0.
With most of the Warrior starters now resting, the two teams exchanged touchdowns in the final quarter of play. Franky Rodriquez, a sophomore, scored his second TD of the game on a 13 yard run play for the Warriors final tally of the game.
The Warrior defense only allowed 74 yards rushing and sacked the Roosevelt QB eight times during the game.
The Warriors finished their non-league schedule with a 3-2 record and will travel to Taft High School next Friday night in the league opener for both schools.
