Warriors Join New Desert League

Under fourth year coach Gus offerman, the 1933 Warriors finished with a final season record of 3-6-1. After league controversy in 1932-33, the Warriors left
the South Sierra League for the new Desert League in 1933-34. The Desert League consisted of Tehachapi, Barstow, Needles, Antelope Valley, and Victorville.
Tehachapi went 1-3 in league play.

The 1933 Desert League was won by Antelope Valley High School with a perfect 4-0 record in league play; 6-3 overall for the season. AVHS did not allow any points scored against them in league play.

Behind the leadership of Captain Steve Valdez, Tehachapi opened up the season on the mountain with a shutout over the Bishop Lightweights. Frank Narez had an outstanding
day running the ball behind the fierce blocking of Bob Schneider and Gordon Fraser.

After two consecutive road losses, the Warriors did not win again until they retuned home to face Wasco. In front of a large hometown crowd, Tehachapi scored one touchdown
to earn a 6-0 victory. Lineman Bob Hooker and quarterback Theo Forester were credited with outstanding games.

In their fifth game of the season, sporting a 2-2 record, the Warriors traveled to Barstow on Saturday, October 14. Tehachapi won this Desert League contest
by a final 6-0 count. Bill Dean and Bob Schneider provided the key blocks throughout the game, allowing Narez to score the lone Warrior TD.

The Warriors then lost two games. First, at home against eventual league champion AVHS, 0-20, and then on the road in Needles, 19-20.

On November 3, the "Redskins" traveled to Taft to play a game under the lights against the Taft Lightweights (Bobcats). While the Warriors played a good game,
they lost the contest 7-19. Walter Hicks, James Purbaugh, and Schneider were all cited for their outstanding play during this game.

On November 11, Armistice Day, Tehachapi played host to Lone Pine and battled the Golden Eagles to a 0-0 tie. Charles Newman and Hicks were given game balls for their fine performance.

In the season and league finale, the Warriors dropped a 6-0 game to Victorville in front of a disappointed hometown crowd. Seniors Steve Valdez, Pete Olive, Bill Dean,
and Gordon Fraser all played their last game for the red clad Redskins.
