TEHACHAPI -- Tehachapi High took advantage of a festive homecoming atmosphere with its most decisive win of the season Friday, scoring all of its points in the first half en route to a 41-0 South Sequoia League victory over Shafter.
The Warriors (3-3) started the contest with a defensive score when Garrett Coontz recovered a fumbled punt in the end zone for a quick first-quarter lead.
Tehachapi reeled off five more scoring drives before halftime, aided by two touchdown runs apiece from Josh Strauss and Adam Mullen, and one score by Jesse Olofson.
Grey Gafner led Shafter (1-5) with 60 passing yards, completing three passes to Rene Medina.
Before the game, the Warriors honored longtime Tehachapi resident, writer and Warrior supporter Dick Johnson by naming the pressbox in his honor.
Johnson, 80, was a reporter for the Tehachapi News for more than 40 years, covering Tehachapi High athletic teams before retiring in the mid-1980s.
