Mountain Football took advantage of a big first quarter with three touchdowns, eventually coasting to a 35-7 victory over
Bakersfield-South in the South Yosemite Mountain League opener Friday night.
Andrew Aguirre had a big night receiving with 87 yards on three receptions, two of the catches going for touchdowns
of 65 and eight yards.
Karson Tiewater helped pace the ground game with 47 yards rushing and two touchdowns on the ground, amassing 81 all-purpose yards.
AJ Anderson was the leading rusher for the Warriors with 64 yards on the ground and Mike Jones added a goal line touchdown run.
Jacob Root finished with 145 yards on eight completions and the two scores to Aguirre.
On defense, Jones had a game-high 11 tackles, followed by Aguirre (six tackles, four hurries, sack), Jacob Betancourt (five tackles,
two passes defensed), Ruben Sedano (five tackles), Adiran Navarro (five tackles, four hurries, sack),
Kaleb Songer (five tackles), Tiewater (four tackles), Leo Gonzalez (seven hurries, sack), Mark Nicholson Jr
(six hurries, sack), Tanner Gary (four hurries, sack) and Cyler Hoofard (two passes defensed).
Carter Kolesar also had an interception in the endzone to thwart a Spartan scoring drive.
In special teams, Kolesar went a perfect 5-5 on point after attempts and averaged over 50 yards on kickoffs.
Tehachapi (7-0; 1-0 SYML) will look to continue their positive momentum at homecoming this Friday night against East. Kickoff against
the Blades will be at 7:30 p.m.
JV and Frosh-Soph Warriors Earn Victories
The Junior Varsity Warriors (4-2; 1-0 SYML) opened up league with an impressive 49-8 road win over South.
Kaidon Hagerty had 174 all-purpose yards, two rushing touchdowns and a touchdown reception to help fuel the win. Hagerty’s
total included 111 yards rushing.
Cayden King also had a standout day with 144 yards rushing, 177 all-purpose yards and two rushing touchdowns. Adding rushing
scores were Tylere Lombardi and Colton Michael, with Michael also finishing with four completions for 59 yards at his quarterback position.
Michael’s longest completion was to Thaddeus Dyer, who hauled in a 27-yard diving catch near the goal line.
On defense, Jacob Meza had five tackles, followed by Hagerty (four tackles, sack), Ezekiel Meza (four tackles, sack), JR Alaniz
(three tackles, sack, blocked punt), King (three tackles, pass defensed), Gabriel Perez (sack),
Lombardi (fumble caused, blocked punt). In special teams highlights, Ethan Cardenas had two touchbacks on kickoffs.
The JV will be in action again this Friday against East. Kickoff will be at 5 p.m.
In frosh-soph action, the Warriors (2-5) earned their second victory of the season with a 20-6 victory over Foothill.
Austin Rolow had two rushing touchdowns and Paxson Schulze also had a rushing score.
The Frosh-Soph Warriors will take on Delano-Cesar Chavez at home this Wednesday at 5 p.m.
