Well, well ,well… everyone thinks this years big game is a huge surprise, being
that it is the Ravens and the Giants. I would just like to say that these were
the two teams I picked to ‘go all the way’ this year. I’m gonna have to give
myself a pat on the back for that later, but for now, I’ll tell ya a little bit
of what’s going to go down on Super Bowl Sunday.
First of all, I am going to have to give credit to the Giants football club, it
is probably the most balanced team in the NFL this season. However, balance
isn’t everything. Take for example the St. Louis Rams, last year’s Super Bowl
Champs. Last year, they
Single-handedly proved that it isn’t always defense that wins championships.
But this year, it is a whole different story. The Ravens defense is the only,
and I mean ONLY reason they are participating in Super Bowl XXXV.
Some could argue that outstanding play by their special teams, or a couple big
plays from the pathetic Ravens offense has gotten them this far. But of the
three playoff games the Ravens have played in thus far, their defense has only
given up a measly 5 points per game. And two of these victories came against
some serious offensive powerhouses, in the Broncos and Raiders, and lets not
forget about the Titans. And the question must be asked: how can you beat a
team that you cannot score on? It simply cant be done. This stellar Ravens
defense, led by pro-bowl linebacker Ray Lewis, may be the greatest defense to
ever take the field. Statistically they are comparable to the Bears of 85 and
the Steelers of the 70’s. They are simply unstoppable.
Next, theres the fact that the Giants offense really isn’t that good. Let it
be known that the Ravens scored more points during the Giants during the regular
season. And the Giants O is nothing more then just that; regular. You may
wonder about the 41-0 routing of the Vikings last week, but that was simply a
fluke. First of all, 2 of the 4 of the Vikes starting DBs were out do to
injury, even though they weren’t really that good to begin with. And now they
hope to repeat this week against the Ravens, it just isn’t going to go down like
that. Expect for the Giants to go to the air early, as they did last week, but
unlike last week, they will fail. Next they will try to take Ron Dayane up the
middle through Saragusa and Lewis, which will just be a pathetic attempt. The
only way the Giants O stands a chance is if they are able to get Tiki Barber
around the ends and spread the Ravens D out. I do not believe they can do this
effectively.
In the end it will come down to who makes the turnovers. Of course Baltimore
is gonna cause some turnovers, this is inevitable. My belief is that if Trent
Dilfer doesn’t cause valuable turnovers, the Ravens D will do the rest. This
season, the Ravens have been 15-0 in games where they have scored 6 or more
points. They just need a TD to put this one out of reach of the Giants, and
that they can do. I’m gonna have to take the Ravens in this one for sure, and
of course its because ‘defense wins championships’. The Giants have had a great
season, but its time for it to end. Quote the Ravens “NEVERMORE!!!”
