EARLY DAYS OF MORRISTOWN
Last Friday Morristown was two years old. June 2, 1909 was lot sale day and since that day Morristown has enjoyed a steady growth and has grown to the largest and most prosperous town on the two reservations. Two years ago before the lot sale on the 2nd day of June there were only two or three temporary buildings here and after the sale among the first business houses to be built were the Morristown hotel, under the management of Hunt & Hamlin both of whom have since moved away, E. J. Craigs General Merchandise store building having since built a larger building and carries one of the largest stock in town and is still under the management of E. J. Craig; First State Bank and Morristown Land Co. building, company composed of R. R. Ginther, W. L. Hale and G.R. Schmalle and since that time a large concrete building has been erected and is now a National bank with F. R. Ginther president and W. F. Eldridge, cashier, and F. R. Ginther has consumed the interest of G. R. Schmalle and W. L. Hale; Morristown State Bank which was temporarily located in the McCaull-Webster Lumber Co. office at that time has a fine building and with W. M. Matthews as president and N. E. Fjosee, cashier. The Bon Ton cafe building which has since suspended business; F. Roberts blacksmith shop now owned by Vetter Bros.; A. G. Richards General Merchandise store which is now known as the Morristown Bazaar under the management of A. J. Hezel and carries one of the largest stocks in town; two livery barns; T. Douglas pool hall; Henry Leathart barber shop; McCaull-Webster, Central and Quammen & Austad lumber yards; The Morristown World office, J. H. Hanning flour and feed store: Daffinrud & Co.; Hotel Grand; J. C. Foot & Co.; Columbia Elevator Co. and a number of others. Since that time a number of large business houses have been erected in different lines of business which time and space will not permit us to mention and we can feel proud of our second anniversary.
