A SORT OF PORTRAIT SKRIBBLE TUTORIAL THINGY
Wot you have all bin waitin for ;^)
Part 3 ~ Refining the outline

Time to make some changes.

Outline ~ spend time getting this correct. Work with the proportions until you are happy with the shape. Trace, copy, guess, anything is good as long as you are pleased with the final shape and proportions of the face.

3. LET'S GET THE OUTLINE RIGHT

The final outline should be as faint as possible. In the real world, objects do NOT have lines around them, their shapes are defined by differences in tone, colour and texture. To draw realistically, lines must be kept to a minimum or removed altogether.

3.1     Here we see my first moves in refining the face and hair shape.

3.2     So you were wondering wot the make-up brush woz for?? Now you know :^) Don't blow or wipe away erasings, blowing can leave wet spots (Yep!! Spit!!) and wiping can smudge graphite or leave skin oils (or kebab juice!!!!!).

3.3     More refinements and alterations to the face and hair shape. Lots of light sketching and erasing...........

3.4     ..........and still more alterations. At some point I decided that a floating face looked a bit odd and decided to sit it on a neck and shoulders. The piccies are different colours coz I used the digi-camera with auto flash an sometimes it decided not to go off LOL ~ Makes it more interesting anyway ;^)

3.5     Eventually you decide that the outline is where you want it an then you can get on with the clever stuff.

Hey!! Look!! She got her other ear!! When did that happen????
