The Earth after the flood
The Earth after the flood was a very different place. The canopy that
had once protected the inhabitants of the Earth was no gone, so certain
types of solar radiation (that were once blocked) were now able to make
it all the way Earth's surface. A greater amount of UV and X-ray radiation
caused shorter life spans. The ground no longer brought forth a mist,
but relied on the rain to receive it's water. Rivers once stared at
one place and would spread their water over a larger area, but now rivers
started with streams flowing down the mountains and collected the water
to pass it to the seas, which were now larger and deeper then before.
The land mass had shifted and now had tall mountains.
Genesis 10:25 And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one
was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother's
name was Joktan.
A few hundred years after the flood the land masses will break and
move away from each other in the the time of Peleg, Hebrew for "to
divide".
Genesis 11:3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick,
and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had
they for morter.
11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose
top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered
abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
11:5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the
children of men builded.
11:6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all
one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained
from them, which they have imagined to do.
11:7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that
they may not understand one another's speech.
11:8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of
all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
I believe that the Tower of Babel would have already happened by the
time of Peleg, because the the people after Noah did not go there separate
ways until after the Tower of Babel. Then once the people and animals
had moved to the far away lands, God divided the land of the Earth.
It is possible that the mountains went even higher during this time.
