The Golden Gate Bridge, located in San Francisco, California, took just over four years to build. The bridge opened to pedestrian traffic on May 27, 1937 and to vehicular traffic on May 28, 1937. While the bridge is not painted in Gold, it got its name because it spans the Golden Gate Strait, the entrance to the San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean.
